Ct20b in a rev1?

I have had a search about the forums but no real definitive answer to my question.... I have a rev1 turbo that i am going to fit a ct20b turbo to i have the steel head gasket aftermarket intercooler and downpipe standard air filter at the mo...

What i need to know it what is safe boost pressure for a ct20b fitted to a rev1 with above mods

Also what is a decent boost controller i was look at the gtschris one hence the reason about asking about safe boost... Will i need the fcd aswell?

And what hp gains will i see?

The only safe boost is stock boost.
The engine is designed to run on a higher octane fuel than we have in the UK, so it is running under the control of the knock sensor all the time. The ecu is backing off timing and adding fuel to save the engine.

1 bar will be fine. Make sure you run 99 RON.

I like the old Blitz DSBC. You can pick them up second hand quite cheaply.

You don't need a FCD if you are confident of your boost controller.

Simply pull the hose out the bottom of the boost pressure sensor (next to the grey diagnostic box) and plug the hose up or use that port from the intake manifold for your boost gauge or EBC. Leave the sensor electrically connected and the sensor open to the air. You will have NO boost cut at all. The sensor only controls the cut at ~12.5psi and the stock nearly useless boost gauge.

Would i be best to just fit a decent boost gauge and leave the boost controller for now and see how i get on?

Yes you need a boost gauge before you even think about raising boost.

Remember when you fit a boost controller you need to disable the T/VSV either by cutting and plugging the extra hose on the actuator or unplugging the unit underneath the car. I prefer unplugging as you can revert to stock very quickly.

My first boost setup was an auto garage gauge (bang on accurate) and ball and spring boost controller ... being safe dosnt cost the earth


Edit ... Yeah and pull the vac hose off the map sensor and cap it off for no fuel cut

Sadly I don't have any gauges or springs. I do have a butt load of interior plastics and random bits.
