what to do about leaking tein shock absorber

Post by rgb »

ive just failed my mot cause of leaking shocks. the car has been off road since 2013 and has had thousands of pounds thrown at it . fully forged no expence spared. this seems the most expensive fail ever. people are saying a rebuild is hard to find and as expensive as new. what options do I have. it also failed cause the horn didn't work but I can deal with that. a sane man would have broken this car but im mr2 for life. cheers

I'd start by contacting Tein UK.

When I asked about getting my HAs rebuilt, this is the reply I got:

"We can overhaul the Type HA Dampers but due to the age of this damper type we would need to get parts from Japan so lead time for the overhaul would be approximately 3 weeks.
We would need to examine the dampers to determine the exact cost and requirement as it will vary deepening on age and condition of the dampers.
As an average Estimate for this you should expect a cost of £200 - £250 Excluding Vat Per damper unit."

Teins

No surprise, they're not a great company to deal with....
Try some B6s, quite hard but give good handling feel

+1 for B6s, I'm using them with Tein springs which does give a hard ride, but great control on good flat roads!

BC Coilovers are lovely and smooth and not that bumpy if set on the softest setting.

I've got a set that are pretty much brand new for £475 :thumleft:
