[Mk2] [Turbo] Whilst the engines out ??

Post by Dannyc »

Right I have a rev1 turbo and I've pulled the engine out as I'm going to change the timing belt , clutch , drive shaft gaiters as well as having a good look round the engine and doing the usual service items.
I think I'm going to end up poly bushing the whole rear end as everything looks old and brittle.
I'd like some advice on other bits that should be done whilst the engines out as I don't want to put it back in and wish id done something later on down the road. Hose from hell etc etc
Thanks Dan

Get a gasket kit from Toyota and replace all the gaskets and seals you come across when replacing parts. Definitely HFH and HFHOE. Fuel filter is super easy while the engine is out too . Water pump and thermostat. Swap out the stock cat converter and elbow for a Berk downpipe. Even if you are keeping the stock ct26. All so much easier than when the engine is in situ.

Thanks have just ordered hfh from toyota and already have a water pump and tensioner to go in with the cambelt will also look to order the other hose , do you see that much of a benefit from the berk down pipe? was going to keep it stock and maybe knock the guts out of the original cat.
Thanks Dan

Nice weight saving over stock cat and easier to get the turbo out in future if needed. It also flows better than a gutted cat
. You may need the stock cat to pass emissions?

I have one waiting to go on , will report back soon :thumleft:
