Do it, you won't regret it.

decent set of coilovers and some other basic mods and you'll be grinning from ear to ear.

they're not fast but you can drive the wheels off them and have mega fun at sensible speeds, I loved mine, I'd have another in a heartbeat.

Yep, new sills and full respray.

New soft top and BBR engine rebuild last year

So far it's behaving impeccably, and the speed you can take corners at is absolutely nuts The MR2 is very much a challenge in comparison..

My '90 (H plate) eunos was as solid as a rock, and on it's original sills -agreed most UK cars are usually rotten , no worse than any other 90's car (ahem, mr2s) though.

@OP what size tyres are on there? they look quite tall?

get signed up on mx5nutz, it's a bit more, erm, lively than imoc, but entertaining and a great source of information.

making me want another eunos now..

this was mine, If i was to do it again it'd be pretty much the same but with a bucket, harness, 2 way/welder and a turbo motor

I had a 1.6 Mk2. it was soooo much fun but it was completely gutless, You do get a BBR Turbo option though, They are quite rare. I believe converting them to turbo is a relatively pain free process though.

turbo conversions are simple..

the engine is a de-turboed version of what was in the mazda 323 turbo, still has a low comp bottom end and everything..

manifolds are cheap and readily available, you can drill the sump in-situ for an oil return, plug and play megasquirt ecu's are cheap (about what we pay for an old power FC) and the rest is just simple bolt on stuff - you should be able to do a nice reliable conversion for £2k, or less if you're buying all used parts and the result will be 250bhp with the right supporting mods - in a car that weighs less than 1000kg (more like 950 for a basic spec mk1) add to the fact that a mk1 on half decent suspension will run rings around an MR2

some (lots) of people do cheapo conversions with scrapyard parts and either a RRFPR, 5th injector or other agricultural method of fuel enrichment and still make 180ish bhp.. for a couple of hundred quid

mk2's suffer from rust MUCH worse than mk1's though - although the later 1.8vvt mk2 engine is the one to have if you're staying NA

I find the power is spot on at the moment, although in time I'll probably want a little more. Not much though - I'd be tempted to stick with NA and try an ITB set up, that would be pretty cool. Turbo would be a lot cheaper though..

It seems to pick up a little at 5k but it's really not a fast car. Once you're up to speed you can literally stay there, corners don't phase it at all I've had the back end out a couple of times already, very progressive - feels literally like the karts I've been driving recently On country roads it flows very happily without even going near the brake pedal though.

Tyres are 195/50/15 I think, they may be 55 but I don't want to go outside and look lol they're some budget rubbish called Evergreen on the front, and well worn Dunlops on the rear - still epic fun.

I've got an OMP bucket that used to be in my Scooby, and just about to buy a TR Lane roll bar. Might see if I can get hold of a 350mm steering wheel (the one fitted is a bendy Chinese copy Fast and Furious POS) and will be taking the rear spoiler off soon. Also on the lookout for a stainless cherry bomb to weld in

I had a TR lane in my eunos, decent bit of kit, just make sure you get a 90deg drill attachment before tyringto fit it.

350mm is still a big wheel for a '5 - 330mm fits much better

whatever you do, stay away from the mx5parts exhausts, they're balls,the packing blows out of them and you A) end up with a rear bumper covered in fibreglass packing and B) end up wearing ear plugs in the car cause they're that loud
