problem sealing caliper banjo nut thingy

Post by drunknmunky »

ok, I've changed my front calipers today due to leaky seals, but am having problems getting the banjo bit to seal properly, no matter how tight I've done it into the caliper, it still keeps leaking. it does have the brass/copper? washers on both sides of the bolt, should there be any sort of sealant I should be using? never had to before on any other car, sorry if I'm being daft.
if I should be getting new ones as standard when doing this job, where can I get some on a Sunday (tomorrow as I really need it by Monday morning)
Thanks in advance guys

When you remove the banjo bolt you are supposed to replace the copper washers. However if they are not all knarled up you can hit em with a blow torch til very hot then quench them (all done away from the car on just the washers!!!!!). This anneals them and makes them a little more elastic.

Also make sure the tang on the hose is seated in the hole on the caliper if there is one.

Oh and you do have a copper washer below and above the banjo of the hose don't you??
