Re: Big brake kits - which one for a track car?
Just to clarify, are you guys all talking 17" wheels or other sizes? And 4 pot front with 2 or 4 pot rear plus non-Toyota handbrake?

I'd prefer a set up that fits under 16's (Te37s), but has replacement calipers front and rear, and a handbrake...am I looking at the wrong kit?

Re: Big brake kits - which one for a track car?
To clarify we currently make these rough sizes for the Mk2:
300mm ish (16" fit) front 4 pot (works with OEM rear, maintaining bias)
300mm ish (16" fit) rear (race only, no handbrake)
We are part way into making the first few:
330mm ish (17" fit) front 4 pot (works with OEM caliper Big Disc kit)
330mm ish (17" fit) front and rear big disc kits (OEM calipers on bigger discs)
Next to be added are:
280mm ish (15" OEM fit) 4 pot front.
What I'm pondering here is:
Adding a 2/4 pot rear (330mm/17" and/or 300mm/16") aftermarket handbrake rear kit......this is the one I'd need to get an idea of wheel size on. It'll also be a whole new product when we do it so it'll take a while for sure, the WMS handbrake caliper being the main thing.

I'd be after a kit that fits under 16's too. 4 pot fronts, 2/4 pot rears with replacement handbrake - Just so that it doesn't limit future wheel choices.

That's what I'd be looking for, with stock bias and pedal feel maintained if possible, although I am open to changing out the master cylinder if I need to.
Re: Big brake kits - which one for a track car?
As the above i have 17s but may go 16 at some point.
I think
16inch
4 pot front
2 pot rear?
Plus handbrake swap
Probably all that is required.

Re: Big brake kits - which one for a track car?
This is quite a neat and simple rear 4pot caliper/hand brake solution.

Re: Big brake kits - which one for a track car?
So for most people the ideal rear WMS caliper / handbrake kit would be for a 16" wheel by the looks of it?

That would be my choice
Re: Big brake kits - which one for a track car?
Agreed
I've got 17s at the back, and 16s at the front...but want to keep my options open for 16s at the rear in the future

I'd be tempted if I dont have to replace my current front wms setup
On 16's as I realy dont like how the car feels on 17's

Re: Big brake kits - which one for a track car?
but as Bob always says, stock is best and any changes to your brakes will throw out the balance of your car so cannot change calipers.

No offence intended, but quit stirring, if you want to fight with Bob why don't you drop him a PM?
This is actually a pretty helpful thread for those considering bigger brakes whilst maintaining correct bias.

Re: Big brake kits - which one for a track car?
Ashley, I've tried PM'img Bob in the past but he didn't answer, have asked him on many threads why he thinks no one else can calculate the brake bias like Toyota does, no answer from Bob. Keri has posted many times the details of how the kits he offers work, still Bob knocks back the alternatives. Why don't you ask Bob yourself, he doesn't respond to me As for stirring, I don't think repeating what Bob has posted many times is stirring, have a look through the huge number of threads on this same topic, every single time it's the same folks popping up and poo poo the idea of changing brakes Ask about how to get a million horsepower, loads of advice for spending money doing that. Ask about bigger brakes, shot down every time as wasted money. Don't you wonder why??
For whats it worth, I changed my brakes front and rear, different caliper up front and stock rear caliper (damned handbrake mechanism!) spaced out. Bigger discs front and rear. Any brake issues would show on The Applecross and having been down it with worn brakes, wasn't fun and the cost to upgrade all round wasn't that much different from going stock all round and fitting 320quid brake pads that eat alloys and squeak all day long. Not to mention the fact I'd still have the same stock front calipers ready to seize up at any time!

Re: Big brake kits - which one for a track car?
I'm not gonna argue with you mate, like I say- no offence intended. Reading this thread all I can see is a bunch of us having a sensible conversation, and actually starting to spec a kit with Keri that a good few of us would be interested in buying...and two posts from you that don't contribute anything other than having a poke at Bob.
Sorry- it's just the way it reads...I get that you might be frustrated with Bob's extremely direct method of posting on here, but it would keep this thread cleaner if you took that argument somewhere else (please).
Anything for a quiet life...

Back on topic....Keri: what sort of lead time do you estimate we would be looking at to develop something like this please?
