Is this any good for monitoring intake temps?

fingers crossed I get round to fitting this tonight.

Its 12v and the last time I had the dash panel off to fit gauges and boost controller I put in a nice ignition feed splitter type thing under the steering wheel to save me having to take the dash to bits to add something else.

Not sure where I am going to mount it but will get it working then worry about that later. Its got 5 metres of k type cable so more than enough. Will just slip it in the boost hose after the intercooler

Had a spare hour so fitted this today. In pipe after intercooler

Verdict is that it seems to work fine. It drops like a stone when you go on full boost is this correct? Climbs back up when you slow down a bit.

Driving around town at 30ish highest it went was 39.

I wouldn't have thought it'd drop like a stone, might be a slight dip as you plant the throttle but I'd expect temps to rise as you keep your foot planted. How fast they rise depends on the intercooler you have (and how much boost you are running)

Agreed .. the longer your on boost the hotter things get on an mr2 with side-mount, temps should top out at about 50c on boost .

Try taking temps just before the throttle body .

Now I am confused, on the water meth discussion you said "Remember the longer your on boost the colder temps get."

They go down when i go on boost but if i do a long pull (2nd to 5th) they do start to climb again. Was out last night..... 7 celcius ambient and hottest the gauge was 44.... thats at 1.6 bar

Yeah the probe is fitted inside the coupling just before the throttle body

Yep with out meth and running a side-mount things get hot on boost quite quick.


What turbo you running , big turbos do run colder (so i've heard).. dont have any experience yet .


44c at 1.6bar is better than my 50c+ at 1.1bar (after just a few pulls)

Wow nice one .. so that's more that likely the temps flown buy that turbo .. seems pretty good to me .


I have had quite a few of these gauges and they have all been pretty accurate . might buy one too im a sucker for a good looking gauge

The gauge doesnt look great. It isnt beige as pictured though its more dark grey lol.

Still got some fettling to do though as I think summer months will cause issues even more. Not sure what knock levels others get but im maxing in the low 30's
