What is a superchips ABC??? what is it suppose to do and anyone got one fitted?

What is a superchips ABC??? what is it suppose to do and anyone got one fitted?

When i got my car it came with 2 ecu's one is just a standard ecu the other one has a super chips speed delimiter piggy backed into the ecu.
This also had another small box along side it, but it was half wired in, with some loose wires, also doesnt seem to light up removed it.

This box was/is a superchips ABC is about the size of a box of matches with 1 red led and 1 green led.
Neither LEDs light if you supply 12v to the red and black wires coming out of it.

Is this box any good if its working? I think its probably dead though, as I'm pretty sure that even without the other 2 wires plumbed into something, it would come on if you gave it a 12v supply as I've tried.

This^^ that is about £500 worth of superchips fuel cut defencer .. superchips are total pi$$ takers .. can buy the same unit on ebay for £25

I had a peak inside it, at least its not one of those rip off boxes that claim to get you 10-20bhp extra by putting in line with your MAF and all thats really inside is a resistor

There is actually 3 I/C's inside this little matchbox a transistor poss voltage regulator/dropper and a load of other surface mounted stuff.

Shame it appear to be blown somebody had grafted different coloured wires to the original, so it looks like somebody at some point has got confused maybe and applied power were power shouldnt be.

Oh well, can always get a 25 quid job hey 2 mad? would you like to reccomend one.

if they've wired it wrong there's probably just a blown diode on the board somewhere there quite often mounted straight after the wiring for this reason

There is a small surface mounted diode on it close to where the wiring goes in, bet I'd struggle to figure out what type it is though without a circuit diagram.

Could always be a bodger and try replaing it with a piece of wire!

it would be reasonable as a test, a 14n001 would probably work in it's place

Do they do minature surface mounts of them? I have used the full sized ones b4.

Guess they probably do all diodes and resistors etc these days as mini surface mount types.

Thats progress, personally i prefer it when a diode has legs and i dont need a pair of tweezers and a magnifying to solder it in.

It wouldn't be a 14n001 itself but there are surface mount equivalents of them

I fear i spent to long scrabbling around on my back in a cold garage trying to get at the Timing belt to do the job.

As I've come down with the lurgy on sunday after doing the above fri/sat, so for now there is going to be a break in proceedings untill i feel better.

What a Terrible job to do!!! the ming on these things! awfull awfull awfull, just no room at all to get your hands in, let alone any type of usefull tools.

But at the mo, I have managed to get the A/C belt,alternator belt and crank pulley off (despite the adjustable A/C pulley being seized and having a fight with me)

I've got most off the engine mount free and some of the bolts out of the lower belt cover,so kind getting there.

I hope i never have to do this job again.
If i do, I'll drop the engine

Don't know what got at me but all I know is, it made that dangly down thing at the back of my throat swell up like a boxing glove and was sore as hell.

Main thing i dont like about the lurgy is how i feel now, weak and jelly legged and aching all over.

These FCD thingies as seen in above picture.
Presumably as their are 4 wires in the above 2 are supply 12v so is it safe to assume that if you were doing a fresh install that you would cut/splice into the/a wire coming from the MAP/MAF and insert it there?

Also wondering if thats part of my problem, because if the ABC box was fitted then removed, that would probably mean the Map is currently disconnected if previous owner didn't re bridge the wire where the superchipsABC unit had been

Guessing that the ECU will not run the car right if it is missing an input from the MAF/MAP

Received the envelope with the FCD and the speedo thing today thanks Pokerface

And car will have its timing done by tomoro all being well, hopefully then we will be rocking and rolling or at least boosting.
