Alloy Questions

Post by markstevieandmads »

Ive had a set of 17" alloys I got cheap sat in my mums garden for about 8 months and ive finally decided to give them a look over as I may change my current standard alloys.

They have "38" stamped on the rear of each wheel. The rear tyres have 235 40 17 avon tyres which are not bad condition but the front tyres have 205 40 17 unknown makes on them and will definitely need replacing.

Question 1 - What is the best size tyres for these tyres for a standard mr2 suspension setup?

Question 2 - There is no markings on the alloys so does anyone know the make and are they worth refurbing?

38 will be the offset.

Offsets for standard wheels are 40 front and rear. So these will be slightly off flush.

You ideally want a 215 on the front and 235 on the rear.

I have no idea on the make of the wheel not really a big fan of the design. It is really up to you if you refurb. If you have the facilities and time give a go yourself. It is what i'm doing. :thumleft:

I held the wheels up to the car. The rear looks fine but my drive is on a slope and if i put the front wheels next to the old i think they are going to rub?

The front tyres will be replaced with 215 40 17 as the 205s on them are too perished anyway. The rears are ok for now.

When I had 215/40 they rubbed on the suspension bottom cup so be careful. Think i had to go with 205/40 for this very reason.

That was a 8j width with +45 offset though.

They look like a copy of BK racing alloys to me.
