What brand heat wrap for exhaust and manifold should i use?

Peter Gidden has recommended Nimbus on a number of occasions - quite pricey but apparently you get what you pay for.

I'd go with DEI heat wrap, I've been thinking of getting some, should of got it with my DEI turbo blanket when I had the chance.

Nimbus is a heatshield, not a heat wrap.

I got Pitking volcano wrap, was recommended to me by a few MX5 guys and it was on offer on JJC. Temps up to 1800 radiant or intermittent which is pretty high, some brands state much lower temps.

None at all, unless you like trapping moisture between it and the manifold, so promoting corrosion.

Could you spray it with high temp silicone coating first to prevent this?

If you're going that route (which I find way better) why not use a coating designed to do something similar, for example jet hot or any high temperature ceramic coating?

Nimbus heat foil stuff seem ok but i just need it too cover some part not all just to stop anything from burning or mealting or just to keep heat down in the engine bay

For me it would be because I don't need to take anything off to coat it in silicone spray first and from what I have read the tape gives more protection than the ceramic coating. The downside of the tape would be it getting oil contaminated if you developed a small leak.

That nimbus stuff is not heat wrap though! It's not really any different than the standard heat shield on the turbo, except maybe a bit more shiny and 'bling' (it may also maybe more effective).

Using nibus would be ok in my book.....just no wrapping!

Yeah, from what I understand it's best not to wrap your exhaust manifold. Let it breathe and use shielding, like Nimbus, rather than holding all the heat in it, Shirley?

Oh ok wraping the manifold is bad idea... what about wraping the down pipe its casusing alot of heat near the cc.

That's an argument that will never die. Going by race teams (this years turbo F1 cars for example) keeping the exhaust gases hot = good. Keeping the heat in the downpipe increases the velocity of exhaust gases. The f1 teams that didn't wrap their downpipes/exhausts did after a few races and found increases in HP.

However, wrapping downpipe can mean they crack if it's a poor quality downpipe. Also, make sure there are no gaps at all in the wrap or you'll get points of extreme heat (all the heat trying to escape from one small point). Can mean a cracked downpipe or worse.

when you wrap, make it a 50/50 overlap a d don't skimp on the stainless steel tie wraps. Don't want you to wrap it all nice then it's slightly lose and moves while driving, causing a gap.

Having seen it been done here in Germany and also having seen the after effects I still say don't wrap. And as has been said here certainly don't wrap after the turbine...The key to the most power in a turbo is the temperature/pressure difference across the turbine as well as the pressure from combustion. Ideally all enthalpy is used to power the turbine after that it's redundant.

I brought some nimbus heat shield stuff and titaninum wrap heard it does rust your exhaust bits. Just wondering now how to cut the nimbus foil stuff or what to cut it with hmm
