you don't want to fit a restrictor ring... unless the only reason you fitted a new exhaust was because it's shiny and loud?

Absolutely, much better to port your turbos wastegate .. I did mine with no traning just some common sense worked great (perfect boost no creep) .. be happy to talk you through it .. I took lots of pics for reference ..

Tools needed .. dremel .. carbide cutters, sanding drums and a dremel flex shaft. (if you have a proper die grinder that would save a lot of work)

Dont kill your performance fitting a restrictor ring #-o

i ported mine.

i couldnt/didnt get to the wastegate openings, just the exit ports and as far down as i could with straight Bits.

helped a tad im sure, seems i went to alot of effort for no huge change, lol. but there will always be issues on a stock turbo with this with a free flowing setup.

i did tighten up the spring also with some washers.

I had put far to much time, effort and money in to my car to fit restrictor rings ... and or have unstable boost and poor performance ...... i was quite motivated  .. did take me bl00dy ages though :cyclops:

Ok lads, thansk for the advice.

I am going to diagnose tonight and try get some error codes for you.

I have the boost controller completely off at the moment, so tha car should be running 7ish psi, which is the cold boost pressure on a standard mr2 if i am correct? Yet it creeps to 10psi. This has onyyl started since fitting the exhaust. Itit was actually fine for the night when i fitted the exhaust, then the engine managment light came on, and it started this.

I can drive the car slowly and carefully to and from work with no engine management light. When I go to put the foot down, or the revs go past 3k, the light comes on instantly.

Regret fitting the exhaust now as the car ran fine with the old stainless duplex system

21 - oxygen sensor
34 - overboost/fuel cut
52 - knock sensor

If memory serves.

Also forgot to mention that when we did the exhaust, my pal put some injector cleaner stuff in which also ups the octane level he said. Could this be part of the problem?

Yeah as i though boost creep and knock as i got, funnily enough my o2 sensor went at the same time aswell

Turn boost down til it cuts out major boost creep especially now its the cold days.
Get a replacement knock sensor aswell and o2 sensor of course then im sure you will be healthy again :thumleft:
Hopefully its not caused any long term damage but make sure to sort those bits otherwise you will end up like mines

First thing you do is clear the codes and see what returns. Those codes could be months or years old, unless you've disconnected the battery recently :thumleft:
