searching for ages (engine out what to change)

Post by andrewgt »

Ive been searching for ages as I mind reading a topic the same as this before but I am usless at the search function :-k

The mr2 is going to be getting re sprayed red and the fella doing it said about droping the engine out as theres welding to be done as well.

Anyway I saw a thread about what to change and service when the engines out but cant find it now.

I was thing
HFH
Timing kit
Clutch kit (just so it doesnt have to be done after)
And just clean up the engine

Anything else that might be worth doing?

This, definitely.

It's worth giving the alternator a thorough check over too as these seem to be a bit of a weak point!

 if only I could afford the foged internals but id have to swap out the na engine for a turbo

Does the timing kit not come with a water pump?

May add them to the list anyway

No, normally a timing belt kit consists of a belt, idler and tensioner.

Only just seening about the alternator comment there. Its currently seized and the belt burnt off it so ill need to be seeing about that anyway.

Whats the best way to protect it from seizing?

just replace it mate, it's lasted the car 21 years assuming it;s the original one :thumleft:

in fact, PM Peter Gidden, he knows a guy who refurbs them for a decent price :thumleft:

No big rush to get it sorted at the minute. Saw a thread before about how its the water dripping into it and not actually the bearing that goes, and if you get a big bar and get it freed take it apart clean it off and use oxide paint. Not that expensive anyway tho
