[Mk2] [NA] cambelt spring tensioner on import

Post by robo »

Hi Guys, I haven't see a guide for removing and fitting the spring type tensioner for a NA import. Anyone got a link to a relevant BGB? By using a mobile to take pictures all I've seen is a spring to the right of the tensioner. Being out of sight I'm guessing its a fun game releasing and installing these? Any pointers appreciated :)

Hopefully you can see the engine repair manual here and even possibly download it.

I had a quick look and the 5sfe engine uses a spring tensioner so will give you an idea of what you'll need to do

Thanks for the link and tips as that makes more sense.... had originally been trying to work out where are these 2 mounting bolts holding the normal tensioner in place #-o

OK I admit I haven't pushed on with this too fast but currently putting things back together after doing the HG. Following the 5S-FE guide pg EM40 is says 'pry puller as far to left as it will go then tighten bolt' .... my question is that after timing belt alignment is the bolt meant to be loosened to allow tension before turning the crankshaft 2x to 0 timing mark? And upon loosening should you see the pully move to the right from the spring tension and thus tighten the belt? Currently I'm not seeing the pully move after loosening the bolt when the cambelt is on....?

As a reminder its an import rev2 3SGE with spring tensioner

Cheers

Tension the belt and tighten the bolt prior to turning engine over.
