newby just bought my first mr2

Post by sonic_mr2 »

Hello everyone.
I just drove my car 10 miles home from the purchase and I am completely in love.
The beast is a mk2 n/a coupe in white on a K.
I bought her for £700 and she's in a fair condition.
There are a few problems as expected with a £700 classic.
When I test drove all that was wrong was a blowing exhaust and no working battery so I popped the battery out my corsa in for the test.
When I came back with the cash me and the seller tried to jump start her but the guy put the cables on wrong, causing smoke from both cars wires. This resulted in the corsas stereo blowing, but the mr2's dash is completely dead. So no heaters, dials or dash lights at all.
Hoping it's just a fuse . ](*,)
Anyway apart from that and slightly chipped paint this car is the car of mine and the Mrs dreams and I can't wait to get her back to her former glory.
Anyway I am chuffed to be here and am looking forward to a long love affair with my car and this website.
So does anyone have anything they could tell me for future reference?
Peace and love, sonic.

welcome. Damned harsh way to start ownership but not the first time someone has connected the jump leads the wrong way round. I believe there is a fuseable link that goes pop in these cases though I'll be damned if I can remember any more details. I'm sure someone will come along with a better answer :thumleft:

The fuseable link is embedded in the positive battery lead.
