Trying to find my old '2 (J694 UBH)

Post by Marc »

Hi all,

I sold my old Rev 2 tubby seven years ago and haven't owned an MR2 since. I've been through several makes & models of motor since then, but nothing has really come close in terms of driving experience. I occasionally look longingly at some old photos of my former pride and joy and wonder what became of her.

A little online research has shown that she's still taxed & insured, which is great to know. So I thought I'd come back on here on the off chance that the current owner (or someone who knows them) would be a member.

I'd love to see the old girl again.

TTFN,

Marc.

Oddly, almost exactly 2 years to the day later, I'm doing exactly the same thing.. looking at my old MR2, looking to see what's for sale now, and becoming increasingly nostalgic about the old girl.

Just did another tax disc enquiry and it looks like she's SORN

Would anyone have any suggestions how to locate one's old car?

Can't help but good luck. It took me 6 years to find and buy my old car back.

I'm almost certain I saw this car on the stand next to the MR2OC at this years JAE... looked a bit different, but I'm almost certain the number plate is the same... let me have a look through my photos and I'll get back to you...

My heartrate actually went up a few notches at that - didn't realise how attached I still am to this car, it's almost ridiculous. Waiting with bated breath.. 8-[

Also http://ownvehicle.askmid.com shows it as uninsured. It's looking increasingly like it was taken off the road last year and has remained so. Hope she's not been scrapped, that would be beyond sad.

Keep the faith. Dvla won't release details just because you want it back, I know I tried.

The way I found mine is more for pm as not totally correct way to do it.

Did you do a receipt when u sold it? Have buyers name ? Facebook search

Well, this has moved on somewhat in the past few days.. after digging out the bill of sale I'd kept filed for 8 years, then doing a little internet sleuthing, I got in touch with the couple who bought it from me! Turns out they never sold it, and it seems they looked after it very well for 7½ years.. nice new set of wheels, a respray, all very heart-warming stuff.

Until last August when some tool drove into while it was parked and wrote it off. Not only that, but the insurance company then sold it on without their knowledge, before any settlement had been reached! So now it's anyone's guess where it is.

Edit: I don't suppose anyone on here works for an insurance company and could do a cheeky MID Check for me?

Can an insurance company legally sell the car on before settling or agreeing the settlement?

I believe the moment its declared a write off it belongs to them. At least that's what I was told in the past.

I wouldn't have thought so, no. They have an ongoing court case via the Ombudsman, but I've very little details having only exchanged two emails apiece with the owner. Sounds very off to me, but my main concern is who has the car now and what are they doing with it :-k

I could also well be wrong :D

but I think Ii was told this and that's why courtesy cars are asked to be returned when your car is declared a write off as your policy has effectively ended as well as owning the car. A few years back now though so i might of got bits muddled up.

Im really worried that this is going to happen with mine. I only want it back to break for bits and to keep the Advan SA3 splits and Momo Team 280mm wheel!

I've explicitly stated several times I intend to retain the car, but who know what will actually happen. I've been ringing them every day since they collected it to check for updates too.
