[Mk2] [Turbo] rebuild decions

Post by drivermad »

Hey in a few weeks I'm going to be taking my car of the roads and over the next 2 year I plan the rebuild, a decision I'm stuck on is I'm going forge and Ats cams in head etc, is it worth not stripping my engine or doing the work to a rev 3? I also plan a stand alone ecu do would have a afm delete? What would be better options? Cheers

If you are wanting to do a good job the Rev3 head is a worthwhile upgrade. If you are thinking of changing blocks don't be put off a particular Rev block as it is luck of the draw, some last at silly boost, some crack at standard. :thumleft:

I think all the common aftermarket ECUs are pure MAP based systems. It's just a simpler way of doing things (no real performance gain unless you're shooting for 400+ bhp). Most will allow you to go for a crank mounted trigger wheel, too (generally both more accurate and reliable).

Some of the more sophisticated piggy back ECUs (DET3, for example) seem to offer the same.

Yeah I was hoping for the 400 mark so yeah its worth doing the work to a rev 3 setup :)
