[Mk2] [Generic] MTEC discs? anyone used with protective coating?

Post by jimGTS »

having recently replaced my discs with some old used grooved discs, ive noticed a little vibration on hard braking, i can only put this down to the discs, as i didnt have this on my oem discs (using same pads).
am i correct in this thinking??
what else can cause a vibration when breaking?
its nothing crazy, can just feel it slightly.

reason for replacing was the oem discs were quite rusty and didnt look great, so while i had everything off to paint my calipers, i put these grooved (unknown make) ones on i had spare.

i see CRN discs are no longer available who used to offer discs with a protective coating to stop discs rusting, basically looked good all the time.

only other place i see offering coating of discs is MTEC, wondered if anyone had any experience with these discs and there coating??
they offer drilled, grooved, dimpled, and dimpled/grooved options as well as this coating.

MTEC Coating

Post by mr2matt »

Hi

I fitted MTEC discs with their black coating a few months ago, and cannot find any fault with them. They work great with the EBC redstuff pads I fitted and look awesome too, as the coating gets taken off where the pads makes contact, but stays in the dimples and grooves so they really stand out. I wouldn't go for drilled and grooved as some people claim they can crack.

I'll find a picture for you later on.

Heard some people using mtec discs.

did you use old pads on old but different discs?

I would put this down to disc not wearing equally causing a slight run out?

I would also recommend grooved but not drilled discs.
