Intake spruce up(pic heavy)

So with a bank holiday weekend I decided to spruce up my engine bay a little. The biggest item on show obviously is the intake, figured I'll start with that then.
To start at the beginning it looked like this



Never been cleaned since it left the factory in '93. Quick scrub and sprayed silver and that was it for a while. My bay looking tidier



However, I got a bit bored and decided it needed to look better. So yesterday I took it back out, gave a quick scrub and sprayed it white giving me a blank canvas







Really gotta clean the valve cover too at some point



Anyways then I started masking the entire thing. Easier said than done, it took ages!!





Time for a doodle on it



Then figured the lines would get confusing so a quick squiggle with a sharpie to life easier



Then I'm afraid I spent so long cutting the masking out I forgot to take pics so I threw some red paint at it and with fingers crossed I started to unmask.
The ACIS cover seemed to turn out ok



Only a very small amount of white being peeled off in the bottom left corner
Then I did the same with the intake & unmasked with baited breath!

The final article! Turned out ok I reckon, just gotta throw it back in the bay

Awesome, you should fit the ACIS spacer whilst you've got it all apart. Does wonders for the engine

I'm seeing a lot of dress up threads, is it really as simple as remove, spray, refit? Looks fantastic dude!

Yup it's that easy! Hardest bit is masking, it's a ballache & takes forever!! As for the spacer cuz it's a freebie I'm still waiting on it. But as requested here's a pic of it all back together

Thanks glad you all like it Matt, mate it's easy enough to do.

Whilst doing the spruce up I figured I'd have a clean and polish and cut some vinyls and paint a bit.

To start with this is how the car looked when I got it



After a flick of paint on the wheels and a dab of VHT on the brakes, they now look like this



It's actually Ford Ash Black, it has a metallic purple flake in it

The brakes look tidier



The outcome



Next up was the rear panel and taillights were also painted



By this point the exhaust had already gone on too. Still got this bit kicking around after realising its actually of no use to me what-so-ever! I spent ages trying to figure out how to use it



Next was to pop a pair of spacers on the rear, about an inch either side made me happy



Then a skip around the great Bay of E got me a scoop in the right colour



Back on the Bay to get some black vinyl for the rub strips and then I finished up with little spit and polish and this is how my pride & joy sits today



So far so good. The only part of the entire car I'm not happy with is the colour of the seats, the search goes on for someone who wants to swap.

So having spruced the bay I wanted to be able to put it on show, with no bay lights I took a trip back on to eBlag for some led strips and a quick trip to Halfords for a door switch like this one



Then wired in the strips and this was the outcome







Then I thought while I'm at it I'd change the boot light too cuz it had all the lighting capabilities of a swan vesta



And both together

What paint did you use

Halfords Appliance White in a rattle can and Halfords Toyota Red 3E5 in a rattle can. I've done intakes before using regular car paint so I know it'll stand up to heat

Nice thread, i used to be a bit of a detailer but been too busy working 6-7days now but once i get mines back i think ill take some of ur ideas

Here we go again, similar design but with "JDM AS F*CK" on it too, and it'll have a better finish as I don't need it to have the car running because it's a spare.
