[Mk2] [Turbo] Where to buy a turbo (GT3076)

Post by kev8611 »

finally got the cash to do the turbo on the car and looking at a GT3076.

Can anyone recommend the cheapest place to buy these?

Also, Just wondering what size turbine housing would be best suited for my car. Dont want alot of lag. Hoping to achieve around 400whp not sure if the smallest is best.

Supporting mods are:

Power FC w/boost controller
Sard 800cc's, Possibly Sard fpr aswell all on a stadard rev 3 rail
Charge cooler with radiator up front.
Apexi GT exhaust
Bosch 044 fuel pump

Thanks

The cheapest option is to get a copy from China. I'm sure ebay can offer one for under £300... couldn't tell you how long it might last though!

What you actually need is not just the turbo but a kit that will actually fit. Within the UK, that probably means talking to "Voldemort", unless you want to DIY your own kit or import one from someone like ATS in the states...

Nah not buying a cheap copy so will rephrase that. Where are the cheapest places to get genuine garrett turbos?

I am aware that I can buy the kit but I can get oil and water lines made up by an engineer at work.

Yup... I just had to replace a coolant line and it was no problem at all the make one up. It's the manifold adapter and downpipe that will cause you an issue.

Thought about a precision turbo ?

had one before my Borg Warner S366, and had a PT6266 before that, which was twice the turbo my GT35 was.

What have you done to the engine internals to suite the boost needed to give 400 HP?

So decided to buy a kit from ats racing. All paid for last week but I aint recieved any confirmation emails etc. First time I have ordered from states so tried to contact them to ask if all is good with order but cant get hold of anyone.

Im aware there will be customs charges but is there anything else I should be aware of?

Customs clearance charge, import tax, then VAT on the top of everything, may well add 25% to what you have paid for the kit and shipping.

I ordered from ATS end of last year. They were very helpful. They are active on MR2OC.COM

Like bob said, be ready to go to your local post office depo. As they will hold the items there till you pay all taxes.

I got lucky once and didn't occur any charges when I bought my full polybush kit from the states

Bet you'd have saved a packet if you'd bought my genuine GT3076r kit :(
January 2014
..the only thing I can promise for sure is slow progress.

May 2015
just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

Still in the garage...
