£700 for a full respray? You're either deluded, had a sh*t job done, or personally know the body shop to get a discount. Have you ever seen how much work goes in to doing a proper respray? Taking out all the parts, having all the little dents and nicks removed so they're not highlighted by the new paint, the rub down, smoothing, any parts fitting that you're having done, plus lots more that I'm sure I'm missing out. Then you've got the painting, polishing afterwards etc...

I honestly would not trust anyone who charges that little for a respray to go anywhere near my car.

Edit: and when you say 'it's a good job' - it may not be to anybody else that looks at it

Sounds like i need to move north to get work done lol. I'm an employed engineer and I get just shy of £20 a hour. Things down south are more simple fact.

I'm not sure there's a Google translate option for what you just said, but from what I can gather;

I'd happily pay up to £3k for a paint job if it everything was removed, windows out, rubbers replaced etc. The body shop I would use I thankfully know the owner of so I'm sure I'd get a very good price, but it would still be nowhere near £700. If you think nobody can see the difference between a £700 paint job (I have seen lots of budget paint jobs, I assure you) then you're a little too optimistic I'm afraid. I'd put money on seeing runs in the paint, overspray, no shuts being done, no level of detail being done, no dents removed nor bodywork smoothing, so when you finally want to look at your freshly painted pride and joy, there'll be a little, blindingly obvious dent now that the paint is perfectly shiny. Assuming that they actually get it to a standard where dents would show up, that is.

Bonkers prices, must be a north south thing. Maybe we just work faster up here . As stated, 700 quid spray job on my mates legacy and it lools amazing, I do paint restoration for a living, my standards are high.

Mmm I've paid £1k for a spray job on an mg midget that needed work to fix blemishes and marks.

Second spray job cost 2k but was mint.

These are all Down south

I'm guessing £700 doesn't buy you shell stripped, paint removed down to factory primers, fully repainted with no masking lines, and car rebuilt again.

But £2500-£3000 does.

I've seen some really shiny sub-£1000 paint jobs, that actually looked very good. Until you look closely at screen seal, gutters, weatherstrips etc, and all lacquer lines are present and correct just as would be expected.

Take a look at Craig's car, or Marf's car before jasongtr broke it, and guess what, no lacquer lines. That's because there aren't any.

So like everything else in life, you get what you pay for. If you want a mint job, that's guaranteed, then expect to pay more than you would for a shiny budget job.

I agree kind of Peter, I wouldn't dream of paying peanuts for a factory finish, however, a perfectly acceptable refresh on a 20 year old car? I'd want change from a grand as stated, the work on my friends legacy was outstanding and cost 700 quid.

I guess it depends if you're looking for a 'refresh' or you want a really good job doing. In my opinion, if I were spending a large sum of money on my bodywork, I'd rather pay £2500 than 'waste' £700-1000 in my eyes. The neater it is, the neater I'd want it

No problem sir, let's take a look at your car, hmmmmmmm, 20 year old mr2 with minimal dings and very little rust.... Ok, 700 pounds please sir....No thanks, I'll go elsewhere. Hahahahaha, I think we're all misunderstanding, most guys on here want there 20+ year old mr2 to look half decent, you guys with the crazy figures are talking about factory finishes...if that's what I wanted then I'd happily pay 2-3k for it.

Exactly, the paint maybe shiny and "fresh", but it wont stay like that for long and as Tsia says, it wont have been keyed in properly.

My step mother paid £1k for a respray of her corolla 1.6gti, it looked great for a couple of years, until the paint started to craze, lacked the lustre and started looking like
