Help with Tyres please!

Hey everyone,

I don't generally post on forums, but I am confused lol

My girlfriend got me some alloys which I said I liked the look of.

I need to know what the best tyres are to have on the front/back.

The wheels are 17x7 (front) 17x8 (back)

I measured the offset on the front, which i believe is -38.1. Not sure about the back offset yet, not sure if it will be different?

What tyres do you think will be best?

Also I would like a very low ride, so would 40/45 width be ok?

I recommend Yoko ADO8R

But that depends how much you're looking to pay they aren't cheap.

Have you by any chance got a picture of the wheel set-up I have, with the tyres your saying.

Will the wheels sit wheel with the offset?

- Offset is on of those things that confuses me

would 205 ( front ) and 225 (back) be suitable, or is that nice wise?

I tried using that calculator but got these results

MR2 (mkii) Flushness:
Your proposed front wheel will be 60.65 mm farther out than flush (flush offset: 22.65).
Your proposed rear wheel will be 61.65 mm farther out than flush (flush offset: 22.65).

Wheel Comparison:
Your proposed front wheel will stick out 95.7 mm farther than your old wheel.
Your proposed rear wheel will stick out 96.7 mm farther than your old wheel.



My new wheels stick out a lot more? Is this good, as it does not sound it?


Also Where I live getting (below) hard.

235R17 40 on the rear


However, I can get 215/45/17 & 235/45/17... Is this still ok?

Also to add. I put -38 offset not +38 offset.. due to being told my wheels are a negative offset?

On my 7J/8J 17"s I run:

215/40/17 Front
245/35/17 Rear

The reason i've gone for the 245/35 at the rear is that an almost identical radius to the stock 225/50/15 tyres. They look just right too. No bulge or stretch, identical sidewall height front and back...

If you've genuinely ordered wheels with a large negative offset then you'll certainly have major issues fitting them as the wheels will be 76mm further out than the should be.



The lower the offset, the more the wheels stick out. You would expect to start having arch issues on a lowered car around +20. At -38 your arch will be trying to cut the tyre in half!

So, is the hub mounting is closer to the inside face of the wheel rather than the outside? If so, you're going to have serious issues fitting them and almost certainly with MOT and police too. To be road legal, AFAIK you need your tyres to be within the wheel arch, which you stand pretty much no chance of achieving if you genuinely have -38 offset

Just to put it in perspective, these wheels are 7J/8J 17" with ET+35:



As you can see, they're pretty flush. If you have ET-38, imagine moving those wheels 7.3cm (that's almost 3 inches) out from the body.

I'm really hoping you've got your calculations wrong, however, as ET+38 would be pretty much ideal!

Wow you set my mind at rest!!

Yes they are my wheels copied the image from the seller.

My car is actually getting some repairs so not had the chance yet.

Just wanted to know before I went any further as they were a present lol.

they look like a set cardhore's selling in which case they'll almost certainly fit but james will be able to confirm for you
