Speedo PCB track blown after fitting LED's

Post by Bowen2403 »

New to forums, so here goes, removed and fitted speedo bulbs with red LED's,
No problem thus far, tested the lights before total refit and they didn't come on, smelt a slight burning smell, so disconnected and checked bulb holders. Noticed one of the tracks leading to one of the bulbs had blown through and the one next to it partially, managed to repair it by soldering thin wire to either side of track (b***h to do) and fitted existing standard bulbs and alls ok. Any ideas as I would like to fit LED's.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to IMOC buddy :thumleft:

Without having the device in front of me I'd guess that either there is a short circuit somewhere, maybe one of the LED units has a faulty housing or is some how not rated at 12V (maybe it's resistor is shot).

You could try swapping the LEDs around or installing one at a time, remembering that LEDs are uni-diectional and can only be installed one way. You could eliminate each one at this rate.

A few pics wouid help but you need to get your posting quota up first.
