A realistic value?

Post by MR2 Rich »

Although I do love my 2 I have been thinking recently about buying one of my favourite cars, a Sierra Cosworth. If I was to buy one it would mean selling or breaking my 2 which I don't want to do but there are a few bad points to my car. It does use a bit of oil and if you boot it from cold it does smoke under acceleration. For its MOT in Feb it will need new front brakes and a wheel bearing and possibly tyres. Just wondering what people think its value would be as a whole or it's breaking value? It has Teins coil overs which are about 400 second hand and the turbo (standard CT20B) is only 10k miles old, it's got Toms side skirts and it has a Blitz boost controller. Other than that it is a decent condition Steel mist grey Rev3 turbo just wondering value it would be to break. I don't really want to do it because I really do like the Mr2's but I have wanted a Cossie for about 20 years and it is a bit more practical and spacious so would be better in that respect.

Rough prices on parts you mention:

Providing Turbo is in good condition, can fetch between £250-£300
it's got Toms side skirts
Are they genuine or copies? between £100-£200 depending on copies or genuine and condition.
it has a Blitz boost controller.
Is it a spec R £200-£250 or Spec S £100+

complete Rev3 engine conversion bundle will bag you £1000+

Then stock body panels, interior etc. Very time consuming breaking a car, I know this too well!

Better off, if you can selling as a complete car, imo.

I would prefer to sell as a whole but I think most people would be put off if they saw smoke on acceleration when it is cold and a ticking noise from the engine. It has good compression over all 4 cylinders and pulls hard in every gear with no hesitation.

If I was to sell as a whole what do you reckon I would get?

You've only had it 5 mins bud.

I know I'm bad when it comes to vehicles, had 19 vehicles in 8 years! I've wanted a Sierra Cossie forever so hopefully it will settle me down as there isn't any other sports car I want, after being put off the E46 M3's due to the subframe issues.

If someone comes with 2k they can have it. It is a good looking car and goes like a scalded cat!

Bodywork decent, small amount of bubbling on rear arches but good overall.

To be honest mate, you'd be better off hanging on to it, and selling it nearer summer, being a T bar n all. :thumleft:

I know what you mean Red, it's just MoT, tax and insurance are all in Feb. I might do the Mot and keep it but I do need to find a better deal on insurance. When I bought it I did a few quotes and came back around 300-400 then when I actually bought it and confirmed the insurance it turned out it was insuring it as a non turbo so had to go with one which was too expensive.
