You could try a beam type puller; http://www.tridon.com.au/Products/Produ ... 11&P=68714

Which method didn't work - separator or the big hammer?

Separator with sledge hammer didnt work

I'm going to cut it off if I can and use a pulley to get the rest of it out

Have you got a fork type seperator or one of the ones with the lever?

I've never had much luck with the fork type and have ended up cutting off a balljoint because of it. However even after doing this I ended up with a lever type ball joint splitter and it got the remenants out, you've just got to wind it up until it's redonkulously tight.

Peter,

I'm not taking the disc, calipers or suspension arms off unless I absolutely have to. Plus the arm bolts are so tight I can't get them off anyway.

I'm moving into my new house in 3 weeks and I can't have the suspension in bits on my parents driveway.

I'm going to saw it off and get the remnants out - its a fork separator and yes its poo.

I've just ordered myself a 4-1/2" angle grinder with ultra thin cutting discs - that'll get those sods off!

Yes but there's no point in chopping the heads off the balljoints

I would concentrate on loosening the bolts that hold the arms

Then remove them when you move to your new house

Do you have a breaker bar :?:

They are beyond use now as I've hit them quite a few times.

I used one of these

http://www.harborfreight.com/3-4-quarte ... 99849.html

BUT

*Mine was too small so I had to grind of the ball for it to fit
*The remains of the ball joint were so stuck I had to put a lot of of pressure on it. I wore gloves and safety glasses since I was sure something was gonna shatter or break.

I'm going to be making a sandwich plate that acts in the same way as that.

I'll cut the head of the ball joint then all I have to do is push the rest through the hole.

Through determination this happened today

Now just got to get the ball joint out, press all the bushes out and replace them, then all back together it goes!

Even with the arms off and supported I still cannot get the ball joint out of the lower suspension arm!

Even with a blow torch it won't come out - any ideas?

Find a friendly local garage with a hydraulic press.

Had a similar thing over the last 3 weeks (it took that long). Ball joint was seized in the front hub (not mr2).

Ended up cutting the top and bottom off. Drilling the centre out, heating it with a blowtorch while pushing the last bit out with a hub puller.

It is officially the hardest job I have ever done on any car. Save yourself the agro, and take it to an engineering shop and give someone a tenner to get it out!

I'm going to take the other side off as well (all suspension arms) as the other ones doesn't want to come out either and get em both done at the same time.

God know why it's so stuck, but that's not the reason for my issues :(

Lay the track control arm on it's side with the end containing the balljoint taper resting preferably on an anvil (or other very solid object)

Then hit with a very heavy hammer

That will shake it loose but may need quite a few hammer blows

The Toyota tapers seem to be very precisely machined & they're such a good fit they don't let go easily at all

Some are easier than others

Just explaining how I did it

It works

You do need it laid on something solid when you hit it though

He may not be, but a good plain and simple guide for other spud heads such as myself is good reading.
