Mud Guards - help please

Post by WhisperingWasp »

So, I've finally got hold of a set OEM mud guards. Pretty decent condition and will fit them once I finally decide to put my refurbed OEM wheels on.

I have a question about fitting them though. I bought the guards with the fixings and I have 12 screws/bolts and 12 holes. So far, so good.

However, on the rear wheel arches I have two holes but three on the mud guard (the top hole has nothing to line up to on the car). On the front they match up perfectly but there is some plastic trim of some sort where the guards fit.

My question is; for the fronts do I mount on top of this "trim" or remove it and replace with the mud guards?
and,
For the rears do I need to drill a hole for the top screw? (And, incidentally, if the answer to the first question is yes, mount on top of the trim, should there be a similar thing on the rear arches that my car must be missing?)

Cheers.

Have a look at these pics. There shoul be two holes in the arch and a third under the rear bumper which screws into a bracket. The two holes in the arch have plastic 'backing' pieces for the screw to bite.

Hope that helps :)

Ta Shmed.

Hmmm I very much do not have them brackets (unless they are already on the car).

But it's that top hole in the rear wheel arch that mine doesn't have. Strange as mine is exactly the same as yours - rev2 Turbo import...

I'll have to take a closer look at the weekend I think.

I guess the person who originally bought mine specified mud flaps as an optional extra, how times have changed

The rear bumper on the UK vehicle needs to be drilled for the highest fixing - there is already a metal tab directly behind where the hole should be drilled. The tab has a square hole which will receive a plastic clip which matches the ones fitted lower down. You'll need to buy a couple of these from the dealer.

Cheers pal. It's a Jap car but as suggested above probably not specced from new so no holes.

So you think these parts are still available from Toyota? Do I just contact a local dealer? Last time I wanted something MR2-related they didn't know where to start.

Might need the brackets from them too at this rate as the seller hasn't responded about their whereabouts yet.

I got a couple from the dealer only 2-3 years ago.

The clips you need will be similar to these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIM-CLIP-X25 ... 43b2f74e8b

These snap into the square hole on the metal tab behind the leading edge of the bumper and will receive the bolt.

I haven't checked the exact spec but just type 'Toyota Clips' as a search term into eBay and numerous option will be listed.
