To Buy or Not to Buy...

I've been looking at a 1994 M Reg T-Bar MR2 with 70k miles. Very good condition FTSH in carribean blue, looks stunning. Only issue is price: £5400, bjt from a local dealer (exoticar).

Current car is falling apart and MOT due soon, so don't wanna fork out for that.

Its a lot of money for an NA and with 70k miles on the clock. Im sure you will love it though?

top cars will always fetch good money, although you could get a 94 rev 3 turbo for that!!

Sounds too pricey for an NA! But if you definatly want an NA T-bar in carribean blue then go for it! A car is worth what your willing to pay! Personally I would keep looking and get a black one!!

Also don't buy the 1st one you see.

When I was looking for my 2nd mk1 I was after a Mica blue one......I wanted no other colour.
When a mate happened to spot the sherwood model for sale privately outside a wiltshire countryside house he let me know.....I never looked back.

Find one thats a private sale. Make sure it's got all the bits in place. Take someone with you who knows their stuff if your in doubt.

But if you really must have the car then buy it.......you might be chewing your lip when you see one for sale with less mileage and equal condition for £600-£1000 less a few months later.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about the colour, but it did look very nice indeed. They had 8 of the puppies at various prices so a few to choose from, but the sales guy I met wasn't trying to sell to me at all, and I always want a bit of sales otherwise I fell like I'm doing all the work.

My current feeling is to hang out and see what I can see, the only worry about private, is buying a real dud and having absolutely no comeback after you hand over the mullah.

There's an R reg at 89k over in Harlow for £5k, so I may have a look at that, I think I just need some patience!

The MR2's sell themselves really. You don't need a sales chap giving you loads of mumbo jumbo that you already know but I can understand that some sales people see a person looking at a flash car and think they are just window shopping.
If you look for the right pieces and make sure it's all intact when buying private then you'll be onto a winner. Cheaper prices. Yep the're is little comeback if something goes wrong but then again if you know what to look for you'll be fine.
As I said mate, if your really unsure I'm damn sure someone on here would be happy to help or go along with you to a car your interested in.

You dont normally have any comeback buying second hand cars from dealers either. Even the warrently that most will give you wont be worth the paper its printed on. The way I look at it is if you buy a dodgy car from a private seller it probably isnt going to cost you more than the difference to the dealer car to put right. Your always going to pay too much at any dealer, after all the dealer is trying to make a proffit!!!

I personally would be very careful with delaers, i went to buy a car from a dealer once, looked in the header tank and there was more oil in there than water. the dealer insisted it was normal to the point where he told me to leave Dealers know all the tricks. private is the way!

You know, I'd made up my mind this morning to leave it, but after more thought it still might be a good buy. I've got such an old car (91 Carina 176k) that I'd be glad to be able to PX it and not have to try and sell it etc...

I really don't want an import as the insurance is a a lot more and I don't want a turbo. The only important thing is T-Bar and not Red!

There's such a range of prices out there that it's difficult to gauge what a fair price is, I realise a dealer will charge more but then they give you a few extras.

Also how much extra will it cost me in the long run travelling around trying to find one, and then if my motor fails it's MOT it'll be more cost.
