Idle RPM

Post by GHOST »

On start up, before she's warm, my car idles at around 1700RPM which feels a little high. When warmed up she rests at around 900RPM which feels about right. But is the 1700 a little high or quite normal?

Shes a 98 N/A

On initial startup for a minute or two it will sit at around 2,000rpm and then slowly drop to around 500-750 as it warms up.

If the ECU temp sensor is faulty this can take slightly longer. Easy to replace and you can buy them from camskill.

Sounds fairly normal to me though.

Cheers mate, just had to ask. Forgot about most of the idiosyncratic traits the MR2 has.

Sounds about right. My 93 N/A does it. I though something was wrong with it, so i took it to sBits and had a couple of things checked out including the ignition timing. But everything was in order.
They normally have a cold idle around 1500 RPM . As long as it drops below 1000 RPM once it's warm, there's nothing to worry about :thumleft:
