Love the Corvettes, but

a) hate autos
b) hate left hand drive

Not a good start. Great in the states where they drive on the right and pay peanuts for fuel with their massive roads.

I like that he hasn't gone the whole hog and done the trademark blue accenting. On the other hand I'd lose the black bonnet stripe.

But yeah I've looked at that most tempting non priced advert so many times

Given its a C6 underneath, but its an early model year, I suspect it'll be upwards of 30k.

Probably. Too rich for a Corvette, to me at least. I'd throw £20k at one but when you get to £30k you're in big boy territory and there's so much more/better out there.

that ZR1 rep is stunning! definitely not worth what I imagine will be asked for it... like you say Phil, for 30k you could have a good few other things for sure. mmmmm.... mega supra :P

keep the mr2 and spend the extra on it :) and forever love it.

For £30k I'd be struggling to find a reason not to buy this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-PORSCHE- ... RTM1489731

What worries me about it is it's probably too cheap, if £30k can be considered cheap :-k

I'd say right about now you're currently torn between taking a punt and buying the Vette or keeping the '2 and putting a good wedge into it?

Yep, this one is perfect apart from the auto box. I can't buy today so ill not be visiting, but shows the good ones do crop up. There was a lovely silver manual came up too.

The auto 4-speed would just be such a mistake I know. Fun fact: the manual gearbox cars have an insane gear lockout system that means if you don't drive them fast enough, it will lock the shift gate up so that you can only shift from first into 4th!! For petrol efficiency ratings. Luckily easily bypassed...

The real ZR1s ran 335 section rear tyres and did over 200mph! And held the nurburg record.

Bloody hell. Still wouldn't buy.

But you definitely would wouldn't you?

Re what you said earlier - about the 'vette or plowing cash into the beams. I am not planning to do that, I don't think. I love the car dearly but I'm now just enjoying it for what it is. I do plan to change the steering wheel again as I was never happy with it in truth. Fun for really ragging it around a twisty road, but aesthetically imperfect and a bit of an imposter too. I think I'll allow myself £50-100 per month on mods and that's all, so as to aid the Vette fund.

I find myself a little uninspired by my previous favourite, the Z4, now!

Yep, how would you resist 8-[

The Z4 is a great car, no denying that. I test drove one a couple of years or so ago and you got that feeling like you were in the perfect place to go and eat up some miles. I think it would eventually feel slow and tame though, especially when you've tasted boost

Could you hypothetically build sequential turbos 2JZ-GTE style on a V-configuration block? I don't know if it's been done on Vette lumps really. I think the Esprit maybe had sequential turbos...?

Much thinking to be done on this new car front.

In the mean time, ordered a Momo wheel to replace the suede drift wheel I've got in it at the moment. I was never truly happy with it and loved my old Momo.

It's one of their dead basic ones, no fancy chrome xxxx! Black leather, red stitch, just like the rest of the rev5 interior (and the bits I've added, transmission tunnel etc).

Minor interior overhaul!

New steering wheel - Momo from the 80s, black leather and red stitch. Classic design. A bit of a wreck, though... But got it quite cheaply.

Here's how it was:

It's been attacked with various products since. Some of which I won't mention for fear of banishment from the car world

Also bought myself a new short-shifter gear gaiter from Rhon, because the standard one doesn't work with a short-shifter. To match, a gear knob retrim:

All fitted now, and about to use them for the first time...
