EBC RED Stuff

Post by mwmackenzie »

Hi guys and galls,

Just a quicky, I'm looking to replace my front pads at the moment and don't want to spend fortunes.

I wondered if anyone has tried the latest EBC Red Stuff pads?

I have seen a good few Lotus guys using the latest Yellows on track and they seem to rate them well.

My car is mainly just a commuter express with very occassional sunday blasts on the twisties but as she is so gutless I can't see me ever going near a track with her lol.

Sooo, I'm looking for a reasonably priced pad that can handle the backroads once in a while without fading on me....

Discuss..

lol

Thanks
Mark

The oem pads are fine for your use.

I agree with the above comment. Standard pads are excellent for road use even with some spirited stints

Not for my road use as I have had brake fade on them, which is why I'm looking for something that will take a bit more of a beating when the mood arises, albeit not often but brake fade can be plain dangerous lol

Could be that your boiling your brake fluid or the hoses are bulging?

Possibly, either way my question above about experiences of using redstuff (latest ceramic compound) remains unanswered, I can only guess no one on here uses them or has anything to state about them if they do :(

I put Redstuff pads on a couple of months ago. I already have braided hoses, but they still made a big difference. :thumleft:

Only thing I would say, is that they produce a lot of dust compared to stock.

I've got Yellows on my Celica and they've been good on the road and track. :thumleft:

Yellowstuff pads work just as well as the standard pads from cold and offer increased performance the warmer they get. The only real compromise is the extra noise they generate under braking but you'll soon get used to it. Based on your driving style, as described above, I'd actually recommend Greenstuff.

On the road I'd go with either OEM Toyota or Chris Wilson fast road pads ([email protected]), I've used CW pads on the Supra and for the money they are some of the best out there.

Thanks guys, how much are the Chris Wilson pads?

I once tried green stuff on my Bora TDi and never again will I ever trust these... Normal motorway driving towards a large roundabout, posssibly a tad late braking as the traffic lights on the round about changed to amber so on the brakes and holly cow I almost ended up in the middle of the roundabout, green stuff are or were horriffic and scary, I promptly binned these in favour of some standard pads which gave me no issues :)

I have had fade on the current MR2 pads, not sure if standard OEM or cheap aftermarket pads in there as not had them out for a gander yet but as a result I'm not risking OEM so looking for aftermarket performance pads at a reasonable cost only, any except green stuff lol...

I don't mind noise, I has Pagid RS14 on my last 2 seater lol, I don't think they actually make a noiser pad lol

Yeah if you want reviews on how good the CW pads are, just go on the Supra forum (www.mkivsupra.net), they are by far the most popular and most highly recommended brake pads on there.

Last time I spoke to Chris he said he could supply practically any pad shape in a variety of different road or race compounds. Drop him an email or give him a call:

If one thing I can say from red stuff on my car I can say this...

Only thing I would say, is that they produce a lot of dust compared to stock.

...an awful lot compared to other up-rated pads. Maybe that means they work better LoL. They can't last as long.

Pad prices

Post by Chris Wilson »

I will get you guys some prices for the MR2 range of fast road pads I do. I do them for an ever expanding range of "interesting" cars now, including *ALL* the MR2 variants from MkI to MKIII. I do a special deal where if you get front and rear sets at the same time I do *FREE* insured post and packing by courier to any UK postcode. Given the weight of pads and the cost of insured postage these days that's not a bad discount, if I say so myself. The pads offer more bite than stock and are generally quiet and no more dusty than stock pads given similar usage. The main thing is they are very kind to discs, unlike many cheap performance pads that have sintered iron in the mix. These give very very good bite, but are hell to discs and often leave a near impossible to remove rusty residue of incandescent particles from the sintered iron on your paintwork and wheels. Some compounds are notorious for this in hard usage.

Thanks for the kind words Nic, the MKIV Supra owners do indeed get through a lot of my pads, they are very popular. If anyone needs a quote for other vehicles I am happy to oblige, but please use direct e-mail, I hate PM's as it's hard to collate mails and folder them efficiently. I can also do stainless steel caliper pistons for pretty much all the MR2 calipers, if you want a top notch way to rebuild them.
