Re: replacement key
Yes, you can order via MrT.
I did it, okay a fair few years ago.
Think it was less than
£12, but you got a Toyota key of course.

I did it via the number on the lock cylinder.
I took the door lock out to get it.

Re: replacement key
Hi If you have the original owners manual, the supplying dealer or the first owner may have entered the key number in the service book
(where there is a section for it)

This is how I got two replacement keys for my Mk1 total cost
£18
, but the main dealer told me they can also do it on the VIN number as long as you are sure the locks are all original in both cases, or go to a good lock smiths and they will copy the key.

Re: replacement key
Fair point Lauren but my local dealer wasn't able to help even though I had the key code.
Some crap about not having it in the records anymore.

Re: replacement key
I got one from my dealer for my MR2 probably 2007 or so.

But I got one for my AE86
(import too) only a couple of years ago no problem.
Reckon your dealer wasn't trying hard enough.

But I got one for my AE86

Trouble is some dealers are just so hit and miss.

It was about three years ago now that I got mine,

Toyota in Oxford, A very helpful dealer and very good at giving at least 10% discount, I was getting genuine oil filters for less than

Remember that at all times, it has been years since I paid full price for anything Toyota.

I still laugh when I see exhaust gaskets on ebay for

Re: replacement key
Kev, if you can, go to RRG in Macc and ask for Paul or Dave.
Tell them I sent you.
They'll get you sorted.

Re: replacement key
Isn't there an issue with extreme wear on the barrel? I would expect a new key cut from code to be out of line with the barrel, and if the key is excessively worn then making a copy from it is just going to have the same profile.

Re: replacement key

Re: replacement key
Was it better than the old key? Or had you lost the key to begin with?

My keys are making me fumble around to get the steering lock off and then more fumbling to get it to turn for ignition.

Re: replacement key
Mine was exactly like this also, very worn key, almost looked like the wrong key, when I got the new ones.

But and this a
"key" point
it seems to me its the keys that wear not the barrels.

Re: replacement key
I had 3 keys in different conditions.
I have lost the perfect one.
The medium one is ok but needs to be tilted a bit upwards in ignition barrel.
Otherwise it wont turn.
The third one is hell to start the car with.
So i would say its mostly keys that get worn.
And i still hope i can get the perfect one made from key code.

Re: replacement key
It can be worth just cleaning your locks out.
I was starting to have real difficulty with the drivers door on the race car, the key needed to be held just so for it to unlock and I thought the key was worn out.

I was doing some work with the door card off over the winter so popped the lock out and ran a load of wd40 through it and its been much better since, unlocks every time no bother now.
I think one of the wafers in the lock was gummed up with crap and had started sticking.
