Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
hence the 'like' lol.
still strips it..work in a kitchen washing up for a couple of weeks and see how good fairy liquid really is for your hands.
they end up dry and cracked
If it were like using acid, your lacquer would dissolve, as well as the skin on your hands!
Sure, it dries out your hands, but I can't see what negative effect it would have on paintwork, especially when all your bodywork shampoo products are basically fancy washing up liquid!

How do u work that out? I wash the dishes every night as i dont trust a dishwasher and my hands are still in perfect nick, the same as all the cars ive ever used it on and all my old work vans
DanT wrote:i think anyone that really cares about there paintwork or is into 'detailing' etc rather than just a quick wash..wont use washing up liquid lol
And given we've basically worked out that car shampoo is fancy washing up liquid, where does that leave us?

Im just taking a guess here but are u possibly the type of person who buys into what things say on the label?
Im a trial and error person and ive found the best wash from fairy as opposed to anything else in halfords. Only reason i havent tried any really expensive stuff is because i wash my car as a chore once a week and have found a product that im very happy with
Each to their own though
Using fairy liquid is tough of your wax/sealant and is likely to strip it of any protection and a car without regular polish or protection wont do the paintwork any favours.

I agree
Washing up liquid is designed to remove grease etc and not designed for use on automotive paint. It will certainly clean the paint, but will also remove all protection, and i doubt will do the rubber seals much good. I wouldnt recommend using it weekly but doubt it will do much halm once every 6 months - a stronger mix of car wash would be my preferred choice though

No I'm the kind of person that has done bodywork and I understands what products to do paint.
And the kind of person that researches products before trying them and have taken advicedfrom a mate that runs a high end detailing company doing paint corrections on Ferrari, lambos, astons etc

The product i use works best for me, it doesnt strip off the wax and if it does its only as much as the next product that is made for cars.
This is based on my opinion and my experience with several products, when u decide to try using the product i use then come back and tell me ur results but i really dont see how u can have a valid opinion on it since u have never used it?
