Rev3 Turbo - Unknown Blue Colour *for how long?*

Thanks dude, again I wish she was Caribbean Blue then I'd have had her sorted long ago.

At the weekend she's due to be stripped down ready for a respray over the next couple of weeks, couldn't possibly disclose what it is right now tho,

Here are a few pics of the wheel refurb I started, white multi spoke wheels are a b1tch.













These were started before I wanted or had decided on a respray but as fate would have it a good friend just had his integra done at a very reasonable price, so a visit and a few phone calls later and mine's booked in.

The wheels will be getting refurbed and powdercoated professionally, going for an Ivory/Creme type colour which will go amazingly (I hope) with the finished car

Yep she's not failed on it so far, however at the mo she's SORN so no tax or MOT for this year, luckily my specialist friend takes it to someone for the MOT so should be fine

Will be getting a new number plate holder at some point but will be after the bumpers rebuilt and sprayed

Also in the middle of planning some power mods for her, just purchased a Phoenix Power SMIC, 800cc SARD injectors, Walbro 255lh pump and new dizzy and rotor arm.

Tonight I've been putting the dash back together after fitting new LEDs, unfortunately the gf was in charge of all the interior screws and has managed to misplace them which is a tad annoying

At the moment she's got Carbotech Panther XP8s front and rear on OEM discs on an Ohlins suspension set up which I don't know much about other than the ride is HARD as hell lol

Problems

Some of the problems I had last year...

One was her only firing on 3 cylinders, on checking the sparks found that one of the tunnels was swimming in oil we thought it was the gasket as it didn't look great, but also found the cover needed tightening up which was done, I've literally bought a new rocker cover gasket this week.

The oil sump has also started a lovely leak so that'll be getting sorted soon too.

A scary moment was doing 70mph on the dual carrigeway and then a massive vibration started shaking the car and made me think my wheel was coming off, then suddenly it would stop, was fine and then few days later did it again. Managed to limp it to work and stopped at traffic lights to see smoke pouring from the nearside rear wheel.

Had to leave her at work and get her on flatbed to take her to be fixed. Turned out the caliper was completely shot, it could all have been a lot worse if it had seized on doing 70.

Then when doing that discovered the wheel bearing on the rear offside was knackered also

She developed massive knocking noises toward the end of 2011 and it was discovered both front suspension top mounts were shot, so got some uprated TRD ones fitted

Hah, yes I've been learning different things as I go along, trust me getting this 2 was a real culture shock as I really didn't know much about fixing cars or MR2s specifically.

I'm more or less on top of her now, starting to get her tidied up and ship shape, last week bought a new wiper tray thing as the previous owner has snapped the screw mounts in one corner and it looks horrendous.

I've also replaced the rubber grommet on the slam panel so the bar holding the bonnet up doesn't wobble all over and got the plastic catch that holds it down. It's weird how just fixing little things like that go a long way to improving your feeling about your own car.

Took the door trims off this weekend and fitted some new front speakers that I found at u-pull-it along with the other bits and pieces didn't know if they'd work but worth it for £7 and lo and behold they did.

Forgot about one of the other things that went wrong a few months back...

Turned car off at petrol station and came back to see that the break lights stayed on constantly.

After a quick call realised that the brake relay switch was knackered and luckily I have a guy who works in parts at Toyota York so he got me one same day.

After much contorting to get myself in position to remove the switch, got the old one out, in with the new and now have working brake lights, yet another part of MR2 maintenance under my belt hah

Well had quite a nightmare with getting her sprayed.

She is now finally ready just needs storing and then putting back together.

Another update, as of a month ago I got the car back and took her to the lockup ready to be rebuilt.

I was not happy to find out that the clowns who fitted my new tyres had put them on the wrong wheels. So I ended up with me 225s on the 7.5 inch alloy and the 205s on the 8 inch, so ended up with nice stretched rear wheels...grr

Anyway, here's some quick pics taken after I took her off the trailer at the lockup.
