[Mk2] [Turbo] Shocks leaking

Post by scleary121 »

So my car failed its MOT due to excessive fluid leak from front shocks.
I've started looking into replacement solutions and would like a little bit of advice. There is a guy selling some replacement ones on here (http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=169514) and would like to know if these will go into my Rev1 (91 h reg) turbo?
Guy says part number is 06495 60846 and they are actually Toyota units not KYB as title of advert suggests

They are inserts for a rebuildable suspension if yours has these, they will fit, You can get a whole new unit for about 50-60 quid on tcb parts i think.

Post up a photo of your current dampers and we'll be able to tell you if they'll fit.

The middle picture where the damper comes out of the strut it should be hexagonal so you can get a big spanner on it to release the shocker. Id say that is a rebuildable suspension 90% but its just caked in dirt so hard to make out.

Difficult to see from the pics, there is a how to guide here that shows the rebuildable dampers.

so i have narrowed it down to that "glad nut", i guess thats not going to be there if my struts aren't rebuildable...

so i took a few more pictures and i am pretty sure my setup has a glad nut, so can i assume mine are rebuildable and therefore i can just by the inserts to get me back up and running?

I would soak them for a while get all the crap off, thats going to be a pig to get off, i sat the gland nut in a vice and stuck a thin bar through the bracket where it bolts to the hub and cracked it off that way worked for me.
