Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
I'm considering installing a manual boost controller and FCD to my rev1 turbo. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Would there be appreciable gains on the road?
I know Peter would like to discuss it at his workshops but I would like a discussion on the forum to benefit from other peoples experiences. Thanks in advance.
My rev2 was fitted with a MBC, Hks fcd, along with my already 3" dp & exhaust, @ 13 psi over standard the difference was very impressive, @15 psi its night and day, standard the Turbo Mr2 is very sedate, this breathes much needed urgency into them.
Naturally I feel as any car running higher boost, reliability is comprised..
The biggest difference you'll notice is having full (or in this case slightly raised above full) boost in 1st and 2nd gear. It really does transform the car but beware of slippery conditions!
By far the best value ££ spent for bhp gain mod you can do. If only you could continue to buy 30bhp with a £20 note lol.
Used one for over 3 years on mine. Faultless
Thanks all for the info. It sounds like it will drive much them same but with more urgency with no issues. Can you suggest a reliable and good quality MBC and FCD please. Also are there any reasonably priced and accurate boost gauges you could suggest? Just one last thought, did any of you find that the chassis/brakes struggle with the extra power? I have Yellow stuff pads and decent tyres so they should be ok.
I ran a powertek one from ebay on my s14 and was perfect held boost well and had it for 2years with no issues.
There about £29 on ebay.
One of the best for the money.
