Strut /Top Mount ****DUST COVER/Pink Washer****

Post by panderoo »

So, on re-assembly of the strut between the top mount and the spring cup is apparently a dust cover ??

Do i need to re-fit this strange looking foam washer ?

Is it possible to make one out of anything else ?

Or do I have to order a fresh pair from from Mr T or will anywhere else supply them ?

Jesus

Nice to see there not pulling your pants down for those

Are they Metal or a foam washer ?

I might just make some out of hi-density foam or rubber.

Yea, quite ridiculous really. I need a couple too and am reluctant.

They're foam and about 6-8mm thick.

Similar in thickness to a leather belt...

Maybe that would work, and it would likely last longer than the foam..

I shall investigate

How about the foam ring that sits at the top of a pack of blank cd's?

I'm always finding them down the back of my computer!

I'm fitting new dampers and struts this weekend and I have bought these top mounts.

Any ideas if the washers would come with them (as it states it's a kit).

Probably best to ask the seller. It's not pictured on the auction, so I wouldn't be surprised if the answer was no.

I stripped my struts last night to fit the Foam CD washers and once i got under the topmount realised that the bearing was a sealed bearing anyway so there was no real point in having a dust cover. #-o

But i fitted the foam washer anyway :thumleft:

yes those ( until now ) totally useless foam washers that come ontop of a stack of CD's now have a use.

Fitted perfectly on the shaft and just covered the bearing so should work a treat :thumleft:

Probably best to test those foam washers out in the sink to ensure they are closed cell and don't absorb moisture before you fit ;)
