[Mk2] [Turbo] NO ELECTRICAL POWER!?

Post by lukekrux »

Hi guys.

Got an issue, I recently did a 200 mile journey to Wiltshire, car was faultless, took the car out the day after, again, faultless! Topped up the oil, and gave it a vacuum.

Then, I went home, turned the car off as usual, had dinner, got ready for work, and got in the car.

Turned on the ignition, dash flickered up, then went off. Now, the car shows no sign of electrical power, battery is fine according to multimeter as well! Now, I thought that I blew the 120amp ALT FUSE, so I disconnected it, and have bought a new one to go in, as I stupidly disassembled the fuse to check it was blown, it was corroded, but I don't think it's blown.

So, my question is, what could be causing the circuit to not complete, when the initial 'outage' happened, I did hear a fizzle near the engine, but I'm no autoelectrician, and I HATE these sorts o problems.

Can anyone offer some more advice, or things to check with the multimeter.

Luke.

All 3 of my tubbys have had this issue and in my case the common fault was a loose battery connection. The positive can work loose then it looks connected but isnt providing enough power to start the car.

Yup - I've had that happen a couple of times recently while I've been driving along. Must have hit a bump and all of a sudden no electrics to anything (including the engine)

I solved it by cutting up a small 9mm copper pipe joiner (set of 5 from B&Q for 84p or something) so I had a small slip of copper than I wedged between the terminal and the clamp. Now my clamps or firmly secured so I'm hoping that's the end of that :thumleft:

Could you get in there and get a photo for me, I only partially understand your solution!

Cars running! Thanks guys, lesson learned, always check the battery first hah! I put a new fuse in and bolted everything up tight. It was clear that my battery stay had come loose so I took it apart and made sure it was sturdy!

Also, my brother is picking up an MR2 Turbo on Monday. Grey Rev 2, so I'll get some good shots on the forum!

Thanks again! Luke.
