[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev1 bov standard or aftermarket?

Post by Jaffacake »

Been reading a lot of horror stories about rev1/2 mk2's not being able to handle having an aftermarket BOV dump to atmosphere fitted as it messes with the AFM and causes over fuelling just wondering is this true and should I stick with standard BOV or risk it for a biscuit and fit aftermarket one.

P.s everyone loving getting there 2's out in this sun we've been having?

I had a rev2 a few years ago with a blitz bov fitted and had no issues
Saying that my friend has a rev 2 with same bov and his idle drops and hunts with it fitted

An AFM equipped engine will always run better with a recirculating dump valve, fact. The OEM Toyota dump valve is a high quality unit and works well.

If you have an OEM install, then your engine and dump valve are working at their best.

The only downside for some, is it doesn't shout "I've got a turbo" every time you change gear.

I have a rev2 turbo and removed a baileys dump valve (to atmosphere) as soon as I bought it. The car runs so much better without it and actually feels quicker

I had an aftermarket bov that made the loud tsshheeeee** noise every time i changed gear. I put the standard one back on and really noticed a difference for the better. The car was a rev 2 and would be ready to pick up with its boost and go again after every gear change unlike the aftermarket bov. That would feel like there was a hesitation between changes as it built up the boost again that it had dumped in making that noise, rather than recirculating it like toyota had intended it to.
I am messing with a rev3 now and would like to know when a non standard blow off valve would be a benefit if anyone has a thought on it.
**How are we spelling "air escaping through a valve" these days??!

Ive also been reading up on the operation of the bov. It seems the stock bov is also referred to as a bypass valve. From what ive read but not confirmed, when cruising the stock bov is open effectively bypassing the turbo. It would make sense as bypassing the compressor would be less restrictive route.

I've used HKS, Blitz and Greddy valves. The OEM reacts faster than any of them.
