11 months after getting an advisory on pads and discs on the MOT I finally decided pads were worn enough to put new ones on.

I had purchased new EBC standard discs ages ago and picked up EBC ultimax pads from a seller on here (long story but they were meant to be Redstuff) anyway I decided to run with the Ultimax and give them a go.

All I can say after an afternoons use is that I'm massively impressed. Not sure for road use you'd need anything more. Braking is fast, responsive and predictable. No idea what was on the car before, but the difference is quite amazing.

So standard solid discs and your choice of pads. Some people on here swear by the Green Stuff pads so worth getting some other opinions!

I use the ultimax on my Celica and found the same, a very good pad and damn cheap.

Not so good with the brake dust though, especially with white wheels.

I just can recommend EBC as well. Wide range of performance brake parts, fast responding support of the employees, open for custom solutions and a fast and cheap shipping, even to Germany.

I had EBC Turbogroove discs with YellowStuff pads front and rear on my Celica CS and this combo worked really good, even while track use. Due to the undersized discs of the Celica there was some fading which made me swap the front setup to a AP Racing big brake kit, but on the rear I´m still satisfied with the EBC parts.

On my daylie driver, a Corolla TSport I´ve swaped to EBC Turbogroove with EBC RedStuff all around. Also a a great working combo. A bit noisy because of the profiled disc surface but a really impressive brake performance even at harsh use.

Didn´t decided what I´ll use on my MR2, but it will probertly be from EBC too.

Standard disks are fine for road use and i use EBC greenstuff. A few people on here dont like them but i find them great on the road.

I had green stuff on my fronts for 4 years and they were ace.

I did have yellow stuff on rear but found Ultimax to be more cost efficient.

Don't go for grooved discs, as they chew through pads, warp and my set only last 15k miles.

I've got a pair of twin pots on my front now, with red stuff modified scoobie pads and the stopping power is great! However will be upgrading to a Mr2 Mk2 BMC soon though.

I studied this matter thoroughly last year and finally rebuilt my brakes with refurbished calipers, new discs and EBC green pads front and rear. They have been brilliant on the street - summer and winter - and on track, too.

That's reassuring. This is the exact setup I am hoping to fit this weekend. Have all the parts waiting at home. With some HEL braided lines for good measure :)

Braided lines are something I forgot to mention. Even with my old main cylinder the brakes are strong and do not fade.

I found with my EBC greenstuff rears i had to grind the nipple of the back of the pads to get them to fit as the caliper wouldnt go any further back with new disks in also.

Did you rotate the piston properly to get the pin inside the slot in the piston?

If anyone's keen on the Greens I've got a set of new AW11 rears in Green on the self and I THINK I've got a low-milage set of AW11 fronts in Green too - drop me a PM if you fancy them. :)

Yes i did, i wound the caliper all the way in, then it needed to come out slightly to align the nipple with the groove on the pad. This winding out made it too tight for the pads to fit. Its a common problem.

I thought when the piston was wound in you could then continue to turn it in the same direction freely - ie not need to reverse it?

Been a while since I messed with my rear brakes though! :)
