Tyres (Sticky Subject)

Post by Simon B »

Just had a look at the Suggestions Forum, Baker suggested a Tyre Forum, fantastic! Members could post the tyres they are running (make & model) with a short review eg, Grip wet/dry, mileage, price etc.
This would help everybody, who like myself, are looking for new rubber!

I'm running Pirelli PZero's (Asimmetrico) at the moment, Great Grip, thinking of some Bridgestones next, anybody got any recommendations?

I'm a Good Year F1 man... DSG2 ( softer compound type ) !! DSG3 looks a better pattern, but the DSG2 rubs off quicker... which is a bad thing yes, but also grips that little bit more.

Tyres

Hi,

Ive got S-03's all round on my Rev3, I replaced the 195/55's with 205/50's and have not lost any of the steering feel.

I have only had mine on for 60 miles so far but ive found them to be excellent in all weather conditions, mind you I did have Nankangs on the rears so any thing would feel better!!!!

Toyo proxes R888's. Awesome tyre, even in the wet surprisingly.

true, but not all of us can afford £120 for a tyre thats lasts 6 months, albeit grippy!! thats why the tyre thing was good cos u can see what got good marks and wasnt too exopensive and actually lasted.

Good point well made. I had the proxes t1-s before and got good mileage and good performance out of them, i'd certainly have them again, and they are a sensible price too.

Blimey! Thanks everybody, getting some useful feedback.
I think Briidgestone - S03's on the rear & S02's on the front seems to be the way to go...

I have toyo proxes t1-s on front and back at the minute and they are fantastic.I have got about 7,000 miles from the rears and will be going for the toyos again next month as the are very nearly on the markers.Fronts are like new and i have never once got a hint of understeer even when pushing hard.

I had rear Toyo proxies in std sizes on my rev 3 turbo and they crap. No confidence in them whatsoever and even less in the rain.

Changed them to yoko a022 on the rears but when the front F1's need replaced I'll get the S02 from bridgestone or F1's or A022's in that order.

Well, seeing as you seem to be the guru of all gurus around here, I'll take your word for it!!

What are your reasons? Is it just excellent grip or is it also the price and mileage you get out of them?

Also, is it usual to have S02s on the front and S03s on the rear?

Cheers Lauren,

Leeroy,

I'd recommend SO3s because they offer a very good balance in wet weather and dry weather grip.

SO2s are great, but hard to find these days. You could put them on the front and SO3s on the rear, but really its better to have the same tyres all round.

F1s are your next best option, they are slightly better than the SO3s in the wet, but not so good in the dry. My main issue with F1s is that if you do take your car on track, they seem to overheat very easily and i've seen one delaminate on a trackday.

The SO3s are also nicely progressive which is IMO the most important thing with tyres. The sidewall is pretty stiff on SO3s too, F1s have sidewalls of jelly.

Mileage wise they tend to do reasonably well, though i admit i always go for tyres for their handling properties rather than longetivity. You ought to get 10-15K miles from them depending on how you drive of course.

I've experimented a fair bit with different tyres and learnt that for the most part you pretty much get what you pay for.

That's great, thanks much!!

At least that's the tyre choice decision out of the way........... in fact I think you guys have pretty much answered every question I need to ask!!

I'll try and think of some more taxing ones........ hmmmmmmmmm :-k
