Indeed but then that makes even more sense for me to buy it as i intend to keep it so its almost like im the ideal owner as i wont be looking at it from a profit point of view.

Even as a cat D i'm sure she would shine nicely as a mr2/jap show  :thumleft:

If you want to go for it, that's cool. I agree there is nothing wrong with a Cat D car if you know exactly why it was a Cat D and exactly how well it was repaired and you are happy to buy it.

It's a personal preference thing.

I don't buy cars to make money, but the reality is that I've found, is however much I love a car and think I'm going to keep it forever, it has yet to be the case and there will always come a time to sell at some point in the future.

A Cat D will never be worth as much as a car that isn't a Cat D. That's all really.

£500 - It's a bargain.

In my opinion, yes. We cannot spoon feed this decision for you though.

You can't pick up too many cars with TAX and MOT for £500 that are in running order!

£40 should be enough for you to source a set of door locks. If its just the mechanism that is xxxxx on yours, take yours out, retain the locks, so you don't have to change the keys and jobs a goodun!

Doesn't this affect the insurance?

Depends on the insurer but most will not charge any extra for a CAT C/D car but the value will be effected.

To me it seems that your original questions have not been resolved

1, When you put key in and turn does it lock door you are at ? if so repeat on other door, if the battery is flat, it wont lock both doors at the same time BUT mk1a's and some crossover cars did NOT have central locking by key but you could push a button on the drivers side door whilst holding the handle and it would lock the car (both sides), or it could be the central locking relay, my first check would be the battery.

2, Brown water coming in through dash sounds like possible Heater matrix leak, a real git to do properly ie not cutting a hole in the bulkhead to get to it. these do fail and its a dash out job to fix (not as hard as it sounds)
