Rusty Engine struts ??

Post by sbk1972 »

Hi all

Im currently replacing my cambelt and water pump, and whilst looking down noticed that some black strut like thing, that goes from the bulkhead, to the side, has rusted through !!!!

Are these the `cancer bars` people talk about ?? They look like the same sort of strut / pipe that is ontop of the engine, the X bar thing that sit on top.

Im surprised at how rusty they are, one end is completely rusted through !!!!

Where can I get a replacement one ?? Is there a similar strut on the other side ? and if so should I replace this too ??

Hi there.

Thanks for the reply. What are the technical names for these parts ?? I might ring up Toyota for a price. Is there one on each side, so worth buying both sides ?? They look like simple black tubes, just like the X tubes on top of the engine.

What are cancer bars then ??

They're supposed to help brace the chassis. About £35 each from Toyota.
