Whats it worth....?

Post by Ridge Racer »

I've come across this near me for sale.. They want £600 for it.. It's a mark 1 A C reg... Worth it or...?

Bad points:

Cat D write off
Clutch slips when you give it the beans
Been sat for abit by the looks of it (needs a bloody good clean, got green stuff over it)

Good points:

MOT till Jan
600 quid spent on it for last MOT
Head gasket replaced not long ago
engine is sweet as can be!
Mark 1 A two tone (not sue if its original paint job?)
No rust on any arches at all
only done 81,000 miles!

If it runs well and the body work is rust free then £600 seems a decent price. Cat D wouldnt put me of a car of this age, just check everything is still straight and ok with the suspension. Clutch is an easy fix and if it comes with 12 months mot looks good. If i ever buy another mk1 i'll buy on bodywork condition alone, mechanically everything else can be fixed or replaced.

£140 ish for a new clutch not including fitting. If the bodywork is as good as you say it is then i reckon its a bargain. Only problem would be keeping it in good condition, waxoyl it etc.

Plenty of cars out there for £600 with a lot more MOT

1months MOT would really put me off it and it could cost a fortune knowing how these MK1's rust

Put a new 12months on it and it'll sell quicker :)

The mk1 is one of the easiest clutches I've done. It really is simple with plenty of space to work.

if you don't buy it i will , this car as won 3 shows and had 100.s of hours spent on it getting it to a Concurs conditions , i cant believe its up for 600 pounds ,and not been looked after its an insult to the car . i sold it for 2600 pounds and i know the lad who had it after me wrapped it in cotton wool and only drove it in the dry and it was in a heated garage . he brought it back to me for the mot a year later and it sailed through . he then sold it as he never used it and his wife thought it was a waste of money sat in the garage doing nothing and he was gutted when he sold it. the only problem he had with the car was the clutch slave cylinder due to lack of use . the color is original white grey and the mileage will be correct .

Is that the original colour scheme? I thought it was MK1B only.

WOW really!? what shows!? God it sounds like its been taken care of alot in its life...!

i cant believe its up for 600 pounds ,and not been looked after its an insult to the car .

Indeed! I was not aware of the history of the car at all I'm shocked its gotten to where it is now.

i sold it for 2600 pounds and i know the lad who had it after me wrapped it in cotton wool and only drove it in the dry and it was in a heated garage . he brought it back to me for the mot a year later and it sailed through .

the color is original white grey and the mileage will be correct .

Would i be correct in saying the color is a rare color? I've not seen any on the road with that color before?

After hearing this... I think i will definetly be popping in tomorrow and splashing some cash.

I'm an absolute mark 1 enthusiast I will do the car VERY proud I will get it back to the state it was once in. It deserves it!

Is that the original colour scheme? I thought it was MK1B only.

I did wonder... As the guy who is selling it openly admitted straight away that it is a Cat D write off so I thought perhaps it has had a respray after the crash damage?

Were you ever aware it was Cat D, mk1 dal?

hi mate , its a 1A colour for sure , code is Two Tone Color Combination - 2Z9 = 041 + 157
041 Winter White Exterior
157 Med Gray Met Bumper

and there aren't many left , i know of 1 minter and he paid 3000 pounds last year for it , a shame hes not in to clubs or showing, its just a piece of garage jewelry now waiting for the prices to go up ( the original 1 owner died and his wife sold it in the local paper with 21000 miles on the clock from new ) .

Wow, crazy! nice to know there are still a number of mint ones around!

Mk1 Dal did you know it was Cat D? Such a shame that it is. Will effect its value although I'm not worried about reselling. I want one to keep/show/restore.

Did you take it to shows? what shows did it win?! that's so interesting to know its had that sort of history!

Any pictures of it at shows? Did it win any certificates or trophys or anything!? :)

hi , i never checked the cars history tbh and wouldn't at the price , i won the car on ebay for 325 pounds after a quick bid and won  , i went to pick the car up and it wouldn't start ,so after a quick barter i got the car for 225 pounds and loaded it on to the truck . i knew what the problem was and 30 mins of getting it home it was started ( immobilizer was disconnected ) and she fired first time :D . i did notice the whole front was new eg wings , bumper , crash bar and lights but the lad said he brought it of a chap who had it professional rebuilt / restored and was total clueless about cars never mind the mk1 . i did my own research on the last owner before and he was a millionaire who went bust . it was a very good car and well worth 600 notes , get it brought and returned to how it was when i sold it .

Poor little thing has had a pretty nasty smack in its life then :( I must admit though you would never know looking at it even now. I would never of guessed it from looking at it when i saw it.

i did my own research on the last owner before and he was a millionaire who went bust

Do you think 3 years later it still is a good car? Can Mark 1's deteriorate that quickly rust wise etc??

get it brought and returned to how it was when i sold it .

Paying them a visit tomorrow
