fitting harnesses in the sw20 how too ????? (HELP)

I'm looking to buy a pair of 3 point harnesses but cant for the life of me work out how to fit them is there a way to fit without having to buy 1 of those really expensive harness bars ??

any info and help would be greatly appreciated

Eye bolts are the way to go mate! Thats how ive done it!! Much better than a bar!

remember that halfs in size when you put it over the back of the seat.

You need two eye bolts through the bulk head behind the seats, at the same height as your shoulders, don't be tempted to mount the shoulder straps over the back of the seat and down to the floor- this won't protect you in an accident (unless you loop them over a harness bar).

For the drivers seat, you can fit an eye bolt in the existing seat belt mounting point behind your right thigh. For the other side of the driver's seat you'll need to mount an eye bolt through the floor- try to mount it through the area of the floor that is double skinned for extra strength.

my thoughts on fixing was

rear fixed here

and fuel tank side fitted here original seat fixing as celica seats dont use this



the whole point is for them to fit through the holes in seats nicely as seat belts are rubbing on leather and damaging it

That rear fixing is too high, it has to be just and only just below below where the belt goes through the seat

I'll be honest- I don't think that's the best idea, not convinced that little hook is strong enough to trust your life to in an accident

Personally I think you need proper solid anchors for your shoulder straps, and I don't think there is anything on the rear bulk head that is already there and up to the job. If it was me I'd be drilling two holes through the rear bulkhead for each seat, and using eye bolts into decent size anchor plates mounted engine side. That's how I did mine, and exactly how I plan to do my next car as well

got ya i wasnt going to hook the harness to the hook lol there is a 13mm hole under it that i could put a bolt in to hold the harness i seen 1 on google images done like this thats all

There is also something that is always on my mind and it is about the
safety of those that installed safety harnesses using the attatch point
behind the driver seat similar to the baby seat attach point. It is

when I cut that part away to install my racing harness properly. It is

well that settles that then im fitting 1 of them fia things and going that way

out of curiosity do these need to be welded in behind or do you simply drill through then bolt through in to these ?

Drill through and bolt it up, you can weld it if you want, but not required.

And you'll need one for each anchor point, so if fitting harnesses to both seats you'll need 4 for your shoulder straps

Yes, you must use one per strap. I have also put a flat plate on the inside on my ones so the bolts clamp a much bigger area.

Yes thats right, but two straps would be better. I would also not buy anything off ebay, they will come from China and be crap, you must buy the best, its your life they could save

i had a corsa c with a 4x4 calibra turbo motor which i flipped in 2005 broke my ribs collapsed lung and now have metal plates holding my ankle together

paramedics and fire brigade said it was the racing harness and bucket seats that saved my life :S
