Toyota Badge on Boot lid - Remove ?

Post by sbk1972 »

Hi all,

I want to remove the silver Toyota badge on the boot lid. I have a red car and I want to wax underneath it :-)

How is it held on ?? Sticky tape, or a couple of lugs ??

Anyone removed one before ?

Removed all badges on mine

I used a blade to lift an edge and then needle nose nose pliers to pull he badges off, stuck on with glue. Then attach a caramel wheel/do-nut onto your drill and remove the residue

Wash and wax! When pulling the badges off thy do tend to bend out of shape so the slower the better :thumleft:

I've debadged my last 9 cars, and I always use the same method now...

I used my usual method or soaking it with hot soapy water to clean an residue or gritty bits from around the badge. Its then a case of getting a hair dryer on it for an extended period of time to loosen/melt the glue.

Whilst the glue is warm and tacky get a credit card under an edge and use that as an aid to help prise the badge off. A credit card is perfect to use as its small enough and strong enough to use easily and effectively and wont cause havoc if you slip (like a knife)

Leave the residue for a couple of minutes to harden a little.
Believe it or not the best way to get this off if to put baby oil on a cloth and rub gently - its lifts the glue and causes it to form into little balls :thumleft:

Its all very quick and easy to do with effective results.

On a UK car both the front and rear badges on the MR2 also have x2 small locating plugs with plastic sheeths on them to keep it in place. Just be careful and go slowly as these have a tendency to break. I read somewhere that import cars don't have these x2 plugs but I'm not sure how true this is. I found the holes in my bodywork more than annoying! lol

Good luck - any problems just give me a shout :thumleft:

Mine left abit of etching around where the badge goes. Going to have to go another new one to replace it. Just a warning, try and look around the badge for and dimples etc before removal
