I've never bothered looking into the Rev 3 loom swap, but there's one for sale for £300 at the moment. Surely a 2nd hand Link ECU would be a better bet?

The Power FC is ridiculously overpriced for the 3SGTE, a Link G3 can be bought for half the price if you look around.

Unplug the rev 2 loom, fit the rev 3 sensors, ecu, injectors etc then replug in the rev 3 loom

yep as easy as that. Although getting the loom off while the engines in the car is a little awkward LOL

I opted for using my REV2 loom and having it altered to run the REV3 ECU.

Saved me getting the REV3 Alternator and a few other sensors :)

You can buy a new DiY PNP megasquirt on ebay at the moment for £450, not everyones cup of tea but with a little work you can have a fully pin compatible ECU that is capable of a lot more than a REV3 setup.

Just remember that equally importantly if not more importantly, is who you choose to tune it! I and most people recommend Ryan.G however i don't think he does megasquirt ecu. Dave Rowe is another fav however he only tunes Motec. Plenty of other mappers out there that could prob do the job but how good are they!? your engine will be in there hands!!

Why would any of the above not do megasquirt? The software is as easy to use as any of the others and mapping values are the same (injector duration, timing etc).

I plan to get my megasquirt running the fuel only at first, this will map itself with a wide band. Eventually I will get it running the timing aswell but this will probably need some professional help.

I am using a non PNP megasquirt, just a plain old MS2 and all its doing is boost control at the moment.

For what it's worth Dave Rowe maps more than just MoTeC

That is the main problem with Megasquirt. Bargain price, great features. No tuner wants to tune them because they generally sell brand X ems. Some might want to tune a Megasquirt, but you would be paying for their time to learn it.

Whats to learn? they have 2 tables, one for injector duration based on load and rpm and the other for timing points. Its exactly the same as an Emmerald (the only other EMS I have seen up close).

Assuming its installed correctly mapping is just mapping. Its fault finding that may stump them but your daft to take a car for mapping with faults anyway.

Random question: How do you adjust cam timing when you have adjustable cam gears fitted? :-k

Randon answer: £16.50 but not available in 34C

Actual answer: Remove upper cam cover. Slacken allen screws in cam gear. Adjust and retighten.

It's as easy as that then? I was sure if they moved freely or not when fitted.

Ryan will be the one doing the work when I see him on Thursday. I just wanted to pre-empt anything he might need to do (removing cover etc), so he can focus on the task in hand :)

Never hurts to know these things too :thumleft:

Worth having the upper timing cover removed before you get there to save time at the dyno mate, from memory there is one bolt that is a bu88er to do in situ #-o

It's off at the moment, however I was going to put it on and hold it in place with a single (easy to access) bolt, as my CC hose etc runs too close to it for comfort. Inlet cam is set at 0, so should be ok, hopefully :thumleft:

If you want the flutter. Take the bov off or block it off.

You will actually increase response between shifts, contrary to popular sponsored opinion.

Would you recommend it for track usage? Is it nothing wrong for the engine?

That is a very bad thing to do, the turbo will not like it and you could damage the comp wheel
