rev2 turbo brakes

whats peoples views on rev2 turbo brakes?
mine are spongy and lack any sort of bite.
is it worth upgrading or would new discs,pads, and fluid be enough for a car running close to standard.
i dont really drive it hard but do like the brakes to be sharp

size wise they are as big as you can get on a mk2 mr2, unless you go aftermarket.

std discs are good enough with carbotec pads.braided lines and fresh fluid

I've seen quite a few threads complaining of spongey brakes but I haven't experienced this problem on my 2. Mine are standard but is sharp and responsive, although the brake fade is definately an issue with the stock setup.

The stock brake are very good if they are in good working order.

When I bought my car the brakes were very poor, when I inspected them they were in a shocking state, one of the rear calipers was completely seized, all the pads were rusted into the carriers, seals were split, pistons/sliders corroded, the discs were worn and there was fluid leaking onto one of the discs.

I completely stripped the calipers down, rebuilt them with new seals, new OEM pads, OEM discs, braided brake lines, good quality brake fluid and a brace for the master cylinder. I now have a good firm pedal feel and the brakes will haul the car up easily with very little effort.

The standard set up is perfectly adequate for the job, it just requires a bit of maintenance to keep them in tip top condition. All new cars these days seem to have over-servo'd brakes which makes them incredibly sharp but very much on or off. Those on the MR2 have much more feel through the brake pedal and work just as well.

yeah to be honest the car looked a bit neglected when i bought it so brake overhaul is on the cards and maybe some bushes or balljoints as theres a knocking and it gets a bit wobbly going over bumps and stuff but seems to corner ok.
but its getting there, runs great
