If you get stopped by a copper its down to their discretion what they do (or how much paper work they want to fill out).

Its only when you get caught by fixed camera sites that things get out of control.

If you get stopped by a copper for speeding, you have the right to see the evidence (usually video).

If they cannot show you any evidence there and then then you are not obliged to sign your life away on that little slip.

Im not sure about the limits but I know double the speed limit is a ban and usually 20mph over the limit is a court appearance.

you have the right to see the evidence (usually video).

usually pi$$ them of even more!!

but I think the point is he caught you when you had already slowed down and not doing 99mph still, I think that make the difference on their judment of out come

I think the new law is going to be based on how much you earn.Is that right?

When you saw him did you panic and come straight off the loud pedal?

Bet if you'd left your foot planted you wouldn't have been caught! :D

He who dares...

Very true! They'd of thrown the book (hard back) at him.

Well, hard luck Rusty, you'll have to get one of those camera jammer jobs.

heh funny you say that luke because if i carried on and took my turning that was coming up i coulda lost him but i wasn't sure if he had caught my plate, only when i got led to the coppers car i saw the other copper taking my plate so i may of escaped, i slowed way down though as i wasn't 100% sure it was me the copper was after or the other right hand jockeys doing the same speed and getting away with it in front of me :( he almost past me though till he realised it was me slowed down in the left lane using a lorry as cover haha :D

I'm guessing this was the layby at the bottom of the lovely long hill heading south! Police have discretion to deal with you however they see fit at the time; the guidelines for speeding tickets etc. are just that.
I'm assuming you've got a big yellow ticket in your paws with instructions to pay up. If you're 'waiting to hear' it's going to be an expensive day out. 99 will pick up 6 points for sure in Essex or a discretionary ban (mandatory at 100).

Pretty sure it is 96, but ud be unlucky to get a ban going under 100.

You read my post wrong dude. I meant

100 mph+ = ban

under 100 mph = no ban

if you sure of the case, you could just try to play dumb when they stop you :D
ask them why they stop you, you are not aware you are speeding and please show me picture or video of me speeding :D

If you get a court summons the fine will be via means testing (i.e you fill in a form with your income, debt etc).

I got caught doing 100.0 (at leat my speedo's accurate  ), the Jag 2m from my rear bumper got away with it. I had a court summons and after some legal advice went to court and grovelled (you can just send in a guilty plea and hope for the best). I ended up with 5 points and £300 fine (plus £75 expenses), the guy before me got the same No. of points and £800 fine, plus whatever he payed his lawyer  !
