Mk1's for tall people

Post by Mr2stu »

Is there anything to be done for tall people driving a mk1,
I'm fine myself but my 6"5 mate is wanting one and struggles in mine, headroom is okish but its legroom thats a struggle, he has a bucket seat that he could weld in.. Could room be gained by putting a bucket seat in??

My bucket seat hasn't really changed as ive kept the standard runners etc keeping it the same size and height.

Vashy is your man.

He bolted his Sparco seat to the floor and very far back. Worked fine for him.

I've not had problems with fitting in with stock seats and I'm 6 ft 5, different proportions I guess. I did find the stock steering wheel was too big and got in the way so a smaller one made the world of difference.

I can't wear a helmet in coupes or tin tops, T-bars I can just fit with the roof on.

I have a bucket seat in the car now on a fixed custom rail that I made up and it does make things more comfortable. :thumleft:

If you did need to go lower, i suppose some box section welded to the floor with threaded inserts on, which the seat can bolt to can go lower and further back than a standard seat!

sidemount rail bolted straight to the floor through some aluminium cylinders cut to sizes to get all four points at the same height. skinny seat mounted to rail so low you can barely get fingers between seat and floor. steering wheel with ridiculous dish. makes every other car feel like a 4x4

I got rid of the mats after the time the throttle got stuck underneath them when I booted it joining a dual carriageway. Accelerating towards traffic whilst on the brakes (which was actually pressing the throttle down further) and trying to make sense of what's going on before freeing everything up with my feet was one of my more scary moments behind the wheel.

I could not fit in the car.
Adapted a lotus elise seat (as low as possible) and I now fit with a helmet on :)
