common causes for non starting
I'm looking for a cheap car as a base for a race car
(nippon and MR2 championship) and I come a across several non runners, apparently the cars were running fine then failing to start, as I found more than one showing the same symptoms, whats likely reason for sudden non starting in MR2s, is there a known common cause for this? or is it just a coincidence

Re: common causes for non starting
The EFI system is generally 99% reliable, so most likely cause is something simple in the ignition system that affects all sparks, e.g.
coil, king lead, distributor cap or rotor arm.

Other possibilities for a completely dead engine, i.e.
no coughing or attempting to start are fuel pump, ECU, loom fault, but TBH, unlikely.

Interestingly, in terms of totally dead as opposed to coughing etc, I've had faulty immobiliser, failed coil and blown fuse as reasons for non-starters in the last 12 months.
