Exhaust problems!!

Post by Mr2stu »

Thought I'd start a new topic explaining my situation abit better !
Right, I recently changed my exhaust system from a standard system which worked fine, just had rattley heat shields!
I've changed it to a custom power flow exhaust which im having afew problems with, the problem being its blowing and sounds awful when on the power... I've had a quick look underneath, I've put my hand over the flexi pipe while running and i can feel a blow from there... It doesn't look in good condition at all so I'm thinking I'll get that changed, I've still got my Old exhaust so could I use the flexi off that? Or would I be better of buying a new one? If so where from??
I could also feel a blow from the manifold to exhaust joint, one off the studs was bu88ered when I changed it so I've just put a bolt in there, i put new ring gaskets in when I changed the exhaust, sealed it and the nuts are all done up as tight as I can get them! But I can still feel a blow!!

I had a blow from my manifold/exhaust that i just couldnt get rid of due to a bad stud, in the end i replaced the manifold with all new studs, nuts and gaskets. The flexi's are a weak point even on the magnex systems, i'd replace it with a new one.

You can buy stainless flexi's on ebay, and i bet a stainless welding place or exhaust maker, wont want too much for welding it in. Either that or just weld a new tube in, as if im remembering correct Janspeeds don't have a flexi as standard.

Stainless welding will not be cheap but depends who you go to.

Alex - stainless is much more specialised that carbon steel

Oh yeah i get that Alex, TIG is a very time consuming process, and much harder to do that MIG, but im sure it would cost too much to do. maybe £50-60 quid.

The janspeed system uses a ball joint system with 2 spring loaded bolts.

I bought a plated mild steel flexi from a local place for about £20 and migged it into the stainless magnex system on mine. Still going strong a year down the line.

Like so:

Right I'll get the flexi changed once I get paid!
In the meantime wrapping the flexi in heat wrap should help it shouldn't it? I use the car daily and the noise is driving me crackers!!
